It is clear with the changes being made to harvesting that the devs feel people are leveling way too fast. This is due to the way the system is currently on live. The new system will look much more like crafting (every 10 levels you can get a skill to harvest +q10) .. rightnow on live .. once you get past lvl 30 you can get max EXP untill q250 no longer gives you 3k. This is the effect of Mat spec. Since the system was design like this it is not an exploit it is just not balanced.

If the skill changes the way it works, why was this not in the patch notes? or can we get some confirmation that this skill is changed for good or is this just a bug? I understand that companies wont post exploits, but posting changes to skills and the way they work should be posted, unless, as Cerest said, this skill was an exploit.. Do we all bug report this issue or are the devs working on it, or is this the new way it will work from now on?

For once and for all I did NOT say that this was an exploit. I was speaking in general terms in regards to why don't companies list everything in their patch notes.

Sorry cerest .. I know what you were saying before you even posted it. This thread just goes to show you how carefull companies have to be with that word. Foragers are rather sensitive to the whole "exploit" thing after some were labeled exploiters because they did the obvious thing and entered the prime roots. Best not to mention Foragers and exploiting in the same post, unless the forager in question really is exploiting.
Well, at least this bug I hope is proof that Foragers need a lot more than an xp nerf in the long run.
I've finally been busy powerleveling Forage as much as possible, because those who did after the nerf patch are going to be highly rewarded. Where as low level foragers are going to suck, pulling one mat a time out of the ground... and if it isn't choice no crafter is going to want it till about level 80 when they're done power grinding.
Yes it is silly that foragers pull off such high quality (not grade) mats to begin with. But doing so is the only way they can get to a level where they can pull out an even somewhat decent quantity of mats. Not like there is any reward for pulling out quantity mats until then either.
Anyways, do take it easy on Cerest and hopefully he'll bring us news about the fixes as soon as possible.

Even if it is a bug, it's a pretty sensible change on the short term til the harvesting revamp goes live. The XP is too good right now.
That said, i'm really feeling the pinch working off a death penalty now. 1k XP per pull normal harvesting doesn't bother me in the least, I pull so many stacks of mats that the levels will come eventually, be it 3k at a time or 1k at a time. The DP is rather painful though, a single DP is around 15 pulls to work off, if I want to venture an attempt at travelling thru the roots, i'm looking at a good 80+ pulls for a failed attempt. (I don't mind there being risk and frustration on the trip thru the roots, but the equalizer was that I could work off the DP in an hour before bed )
I'm sure with the revamp all this will be tweaked to work properly, if harvests average out to maybe 2k XP for pulling 2-3 mats near the max available Harmful Extraction level that's cool. Or better yet, perhaps they'll double the quantity of mats we get and drop the XP to 500 per pull, i'm fine with that. *grin*

Ah, and can we get some explanation of how this is supposed to help the economy? Foragers don't pull enough mats for Crafters until high levels, yes they level too fast but unlike other professions are locked into one skill tree.
This is a stealth nerf and a bad one. It seems like knee-jerk reaction and not a coherent plan to balance out the economy and foragers.
Please have Nevrax give us a plan and a vision for Foragers to implement, rather than step-wise reactions that really hurt gameplay until we reach the then constantly shifting goal.

Once again, the mmorpg addage, Exploit early, Exploit often is reinforced. Not only has your skill been nerfed, but now it's harder to catch up to those that power leveled and beat the system. Now your skill has been diminished and at the same time those who leveled faster have been rewarded with a more valuable level thats harder to obtain.
Just wait until the mages are nerfed and your stuck at 60 and have to put out 10X the effort to get to 100 while many of the power gamers are 100+
