If ryzom is ever going to be more than a tiny niche product it will need a little bit more mass-market appeal. It doesn't need the thousands of quests that other games have, but what it does need (certainly for the first 100 or so levels) is something to actually work towards that is tangible.
I really like the open non-quest-required sandbox style that is mainland Ryzom, it really gives a feeling of freedom to the game. The Silan style quests/walkthrough is a little too handheld for ML imo. Which is why i enjoyed the old starter lands so much.

I have to agree though that it would be really nice to have more to look forward to, especially sub lvl 100 and that having something to look forward to at around lvl 100's would be very nice. Creating more sub-goals would make playing and lvling much more enjoyable.

Acridiel - people often don't like posts that appear to disagree with theirs, and this is an internets-wide-problem(tm) :) Your posts sometimes come across as a little direct and confrontational, but I really don't think you mean anything negative by it. The same also happens with my own posts, and people have flown off the handle for reasons I couldn't see myself :)

I sit on the fence with this one - I completely understand your reaction, as these points have indeed been discussed over and over again. However, I think for the benefit of the new developers and for the benefit of new visitors to the community, it's worth recycling them in the hope of showing the direction desired by the community itself :) I'm sure the devs have their own ideas when it comes to direction and goals, but it's still worth reminding them what everyone else thinks every so often.

Don't take the reaction badly mate, everyone knows you mean well, and that you're one of the long-standing and valued members of the community :)

First, I don´t want to offend in any may, so please don´t misunderstand me, ok? :)

Again, I don´t want to be rude, please don´t see this as an angry rant. :)

I personally cannot se how anybody, that prefaces their remarks, with words like these, intends to cause offence, or could be viewed as intending to cause offence.

As Dazman said, this is the interwebnetthingy and should be treated as such :)

Example: "I don't want to cause offense, but you are a little ****"

Personally if I have to start with: I don't want to cause offense, but....
Then it's usually a good indication I shouldn't be writing it in the first place.

Of course I am stubborn and sometimes write it anyway, but at least then I am not surprised when people react badly :)

No offence intended, but that is probably the worst example you could have come up with :) See, not as black and white as you might think eh? :)

I fail to see where I said (or even implied) that there was anything black and white about the issue...

The point of the post (which I admit was left for the reader to grasp - maybe this was optomistic for an internet forum) was that prefixing a comment with "No offense" does not really do anything.

In fact if anything it's dishonest - if you feel you might be about to give offense and actually don't want to then modify your comment so that it does not offend. If you don't give a damn, don't pretend that you do.

The last thing it does is communicate to the reader that no offense is intended - in fact it often communicates the opposite.

Anyway, this is derailing the thread.

Well, I´m not going to let myself be drawn into a flamewar with you fadebait.
I´ll just have another click on my ignore list.

Thank you.

I started with Ryzom when we had the 4 individual islands. To me I would never of stayed in game if I had not had friends. Let me tell you in my opinion Silan is great. I can actually do it with out anyone. I love it. I have started many times on it just to enjoy it.

I have not had any trouble with the quests, mostly if you read carefully it tell you excatly what to do. I am probably wrong but I think that Javin quest says to go to Ruins of Silan, after running into it I think it comes up telling you what to do. Once you finally read it slowly you go oh doh yeah.

I love the hardness of trying to find the ********* fine motega wood, fine hash amber and the Sarina seed, it drive me crazy running around on that side of the island. But after taking my time and repeatedly getting nothing it is great to say ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I did it. Great feeling of accomplishment.

I don't like games to lead me around, well you get my idea.
But everyone is entitled to their opinion.
