Another post to say that the Karavan/Kami squabble is not the focus of Ryzom.
it is a significant influence in the world, but assuming it is the main point of it all is just being blinded by your preconceptions.

rickyb wrote:Again, with the number of players and guilds in the game, everything about the game points to OP Battles being FvF and the only people I see defending it's status as GvG are the few people who want to exploit this as revenge of bad blood. If a player or guild wants to punish another guild maybe some other game features should be put in place. All that's happening now is a lot of people who had nothing to do with "history" are paying the price. New people coming into the game don't see how wronged a guild was. They just see dissention in the faction and despite what the reason may be or point being made, this does not lead to love or enjoyable game play.
So, anyone who doesn't help there own faction is only out for revenge? To note some guilds I'v seen help the other faction - Evo,Nexus(used to be Kara), Order of steel , Atys ghost,Pyr Militia(who are now Neutral)...Were all of them out for revenge? or doing it because of bad blood? *also there was a few more that helped AP(Atys Paladins) a long time back when we were first attacked, they didn't do it for revenge or bad blood, the did it to help there friends*
If you think so you're wrong, I know a few of them did it for balance alone, some just wanted to help there friends... a couple did do it because of bad blood, but unless you have the full story, you have no right to judge them.
No one should be forced to help someone they don't like, and no-one should suffer consequences for not helping them, and helping there friends instead.
IF OPs were FvF Every Kami guild should get cats/mats for every OP held by Kami, and every Kara guild should get cats/mats for every OP held by Karas. Otherwise, Its still GvG, because only one guild gets the rewards...And not the faction.(Trading/Sharing realy doesn't count sorry).

I agree with Norvic and Stelf. A major aspect of Ryzom is freedom, and to strictly tie OP battles to faction in any game-mechanical way is unsupportive of that.

rickyb wrote:While this issue is related to OPs I think it is really an issue of polotics and bad blood. From what I've seen the only times GvG OP battles are used or the idea of GvG OP battles are defended is to express that bad blood. The majority of the attackers and defenders at any OP battle I have ever been to are FvF and have nothing to do with GvG. Every other part of the game is heavily FvF. Resource distribution, OP Placement and TPs all encourage FvF and quite honestly a guild by itself without faction support can't hope to take or defend an OP.
Youre confusing FvF with the fight between the two dominant Alliances (both of which have tried to take over their respected Cult by naming themselves "The Kami Alliance" and "The Karavan Alliance") , its Alliance v Alliance has nothing to do with Cult

Remove them? Oh wait but how would everyone get their double exp!
The very idea of double exp as a reward is stupid, i'm no genius but if i wanted people to stay in a game introducing a way to lvl at twice the speed, get bored and leave, isnt something i'd introduce, but as i said i'm no genius....

Remove them from outposts for sure. If they stay in anywhere it should be things like the ghost kitin award, the npc bosses, the casino... or something bought with "honor points" - if we ever see those back in any form. Putting them into the game as something that just pours into a guild hall without any work or effort required to maintain (other than scooping the things out so they don't fill the hall and stop dropping in) is maybe not such a good idea.

I can suggest ot make other changes to separate FvF and GvG - to make resources from ops accessable to anyone of same aligment as guild controlling op for dappers (also one more dapper sink, think it can be high enough prices, maybe 500k dappers or 1kk for 1 stack 250q cats, maybe it will heal dappers economics a bit)
So it brings more FvF in op wars and leaves GvG if same factioned guilds have feud =)
So kami (kara or neutral) guild takes op, op spawns npc that sells cats/resources/and etc to same aligment players... think in some case it makes kami/kara alliance as part of ryzom mechanics....
......
Fame - i like idea with fame

main problem I have with this is there would be no reason to hold an outpost
I could easily train an alt up to 30 fame either faction, buy cats from either factions and never have anything to fight for. Sure it might mean the factions would be partially reconciled but the cost would be a part of the game many enjoy (not me) the battles and the politics.
A guild could even have a "cats alt" no need for more than 1, just hand your dappers in and he goes off to get 50 stacks of cats from opposing factions outpost.
the main problem with new mechanics, especially factional mechanics is not everyone plays fair. For example spys in guilds/kara/kami chat (not meaning so called kamivans either)

Crazy idea:
Remove cats from OPs. They can be purchased only from shady characters in back alleys of the larger towns. Maybe call the cat-selling tribe the BALCOs, with a boss NPC named Ba'ry Bonds...
Faction is of no significance, just dappers. Better money sink than wheels, IMO.
OPs produce only OP mats, but in somewhat increased quantity. And more variety. And new plans/patterns to use them.
Thoughts?
