Some progress. It managed to suck down 12% but won't budge past that.

I did manage to get it. But it's curious. It appears the game was downloading but the downloader wasn't relaying the progress. It would sit on 12% and then all of a sudden jump to 25%. Then sit on that for a long time then jump to 54% and on like that. So if you're getting no errors but it just appears to be hanging, leave it go.

I am having this same problem as well with plenty of space on my HDD. I ended up giving up and DLing the trial off of filefront. This really is something they should look into. You have a game with population problems and people can't even access the trial easily. That makes no sense.

Hello,

i had in the past some problem related to downloading files (in general, not just Ryzom), having the download always freze after a while.

What i found is that, sometimes for reasons that u could ask only to Bill, the Windows firewall turn on also if u have disabled it, becuase using another firewall.
So, i was using Norton firewall at that time with no problems at all. After some testing i just think it was something related to port locking and found, as said, Windows Firewall enabled at same time of Norton Firewall. I disabled it restoring the intended behaviour and the downloading problem simply disappeared.

Of course, you can have different problem, but maybe this can help a bit.

NB: it seems that Windows XP can re-enable his firewall after an automatic update, so, after any Windows Update always check your firewall configuration.

NB: i downloaded the new installer from Ryzom site and done a full reinstallation just after the last patch (to solve the crash issue) and the installer download the whole Ryzom using almost all my bandwidth (4Mbps), so it seems to me that Ryzom server can handle that process pretty well

Exactly the same problem here .
Trying to download even the small client ( for the trial island ) is turning into a chore .
616mb total download should take me no more than 1hr on my connection , yet because the downloader keeps popping up
" there has been an error downloading one of the files etc etc etc "

every 5 mins or so , i'm so far 4hours into trying to download and only at 34% .

To be honest , i'm currently trying to find a new ( old ) mmo to play and i remember ryzom from beta so wanted to see how it was playing now with the thought of subscribing if i enjoyed it .

But , with the terrible state that downloading the trial is in atm , i'm not far off chucking in the towel and looking elsewhere .

Now i know the problem is not at my end , all ports are opened , and anti virus is disabled ( just in case ) .

I have no problems downloading from anywhere else .

(ps - excuse the forum handle , i gave up trying to think of names with the ones i normally use already in use , and needed something with which to post :) . It in no way reflects how i would name a character )

I agree - autopatching should not be such an ordeal. For me both optiosn aren't working with Ryzom, i.e. trying to autopatch the previous version or using the Ryzom downloader for a clean installation (in both options the download speed is slow to non-existent or an error message 'patch failed' is encountered).

I do not have this issue with the majority of the other games I'm either playing or have tried in the past (and I have the fastest DSL connection my ISP is offering... and over 100GB of free space), so it would seem the issue is at not at my end.

I'll probably try a while longer, as I'm curious to know what this game is all about, however I believe Ryzom would be quite well advised to make their patches available as downloadable files rather than having people connect to their download server, which seems to be problematic.

Same problem.

I had an old version of the game. Tried patching and it always hit that error message repeatedly. So I read around and decided to try starting over.

It's downloading now, very slowly, but the installer isn't updating. The amount done stays at 0% and XX/1.48GB goes up and down with each new file. It was 499MB/1.48 GM on one file, then 19.9MB/1.48GB on the next. I checked the actual folder and it's done about 140MB.

And like everyone else, it periodically crashes.
