Mylord Grimjim
Did I say that mercenaries have no honour? Or did I even imply that? Not in the least. What I said and meant was that your concept of honour differs from mine, which it evidently does (especially after your in-depth explanation).
SO this was not meant as an insult or a hint at mercenaries being "dishonorable" it was a statement of how your RP does not fit my personal idea of what honour is.
My idea of honour is: patriotic zeal. What I mean by this is - being loyal to your family (guild, leader) to your dying breath, being loyal to your ideals (philosophy, path religion) and never turning away in the face of danger. This includes however: Respect for enemies (like never walking past a person in need of a rez no matter the faction, never falling as low as to the use of offensive language in battle, never dragging aggro), aid to the weak and those in need (giving away cats, money, weaps for FREE (those that I own of course)).
The most general idea is: Switching factions for whatever reason does not fit MY idea of honour.
Respectfully your,
Spoloh

Then our conceptions are actually pretty close.spoloh wrote:My idea of honour is: patriotic zeal. Our guild is structured as a family with a dynastic lore to the leadership.
Definately loyal to our ideals and haven't compromised on them.
Apart from giving away cats (though we did on the quiet when we had an outpost) that still pretty much matches up to our vision still.

It surely does mylord Grimjim it surely does... but for one slight detail: that you fight for either karavan or kami ideals (depending on which ideals hire you first)...

You mentioned patriotism more often than religious fervour and we're fighting for neither of their idealsspoloh wrote:It surely does mylord Grimjim it surely does... but for one slight detail: that you fight for either karavan or kami ideals (depending on which ideals hire you first)...

Re: A spiritual fyros in search of a home
In early medieval Russia after the death of Tzar his sons - the older named tzar in fathers place and the rest supposedly happy with their "equal" shares of land - where fighting among each other. They soon started running out of troops and so they hired Viking and Tartar-mongol mercenaries to fight under their banners. The same viking yarl with his men could have been one one side today and on the other tomorrow. They did not really care. What they cared for however was their ships their people and their profit, so they would gladly turn their backs on the enemy when the odds seemed to be against them. The Tartar-mongols on the other hand fought fiersely (no matter on what side) to weaken Russia as a whole and seize it with ease (which they did) afterwords.
I guess this early experience with mercenaries was stark enough to place a kind of taboo in the heads and souls of russian warriors.
Somehow they never got to know neither the venetian crossbowmen nor the Swiss halberdiers. However in Europe< where the latter kind were well known
hardly anyone but the masters (ones who hired) spoke kindly of their sort...
Call this a stereotype or naivete if you will. No matter what you call it but fighting on different sides of the same conflict smells... And I am not he who would call that cmell a pleasant one...
Sincerely,
Spoloh

Re: A spiritual fyros in search of a home
The conflict on atys is between two sides - Kami and Karavan
So you either:
1. Fight for the side that you call your own.
2. Do not fight at all (like most neutrals it seems)
3. Sell your swords to whoever pays more (or pays first if you like)
4. Fight "against" something (like tryker karavan guilds fighting on kami side in zorai against the matis oppression that they hate so much)
Or you can be a joker card and change your views/ideals/philosophy (pick one or all) for each and every battle to suit your current mood.
But... This still leaves only 2 sides of a conflict.

Re: A spiritual fyros in search of a home
Something that has been somewhat de-emphasised and lost is the third side which is a sort of conglomeration of interests generally labelled neutral. There's Elias Tryton, the hominist movement and so forth, mostly those who believe that Atys would be better off without the 'gods' interference.spoloh wrote:The conflict on atys is between two sides - Kami and Karavan

So no, there is the third side, probably best exemplified previously by Tryton. It is an unfortunate fact of the game that this has not been better developed in terms of participation options and mechanics, but it is still there.

Re: A spiritual fyros in search of a home
Where could I find some more info on this Tryton and his teachings??
Now if it's a
#1 Candidate A
#2 Candidate B
#3 Against all
It might indeed be called a "third way".
Still you have chosen a strange way to follow this "third way" though
