tbh I hope these jewels are grind quality crap, just so the game doesnt become dominated by those who have run the nest 50000000000 times to get a full set

btw I think it will be instanced, otherwise they could have created a nice mission to say desert stock (hope I got the right kitin nest there) and just give rewards for that
@ 1st. Oh how I agree with you. Please Nevrax, don´t do this to us. No Item-Grind. No more WorldofWantmore cloning. Prettyplease!!!

No Über Items for that. Maybe more those cool Karavan/kami Stuff Itmes, but please nothing that gives to much of an advantage.

@2nd. Yup. I think it will be like any other "R²" Scenario. A "kind of" Instance.

True, IF you get it from the missiongiver after completion(to stay IC) and they´re not droped by Kitins... but i´m sure Nevrax wouldn´t do such a thing(else they are Kitinjewels and we´ll find out that Kitins craft too O.O)

weeeeell i hope they aren´t better then the ones Homin can craft themselfs, but i bet they will be better :(

not necessarily, as it would firstly sate the hunger for new content and secondly the one for new a region to explore.

if it´s an instance or a new region depends more on HOW they plan to implement the Kitinlair...

if it is created anew for each and every Homin or group of Homins entering(eg.10groups=10 new Lairs)
and you can´t meet those other 9 groups allready entered(as they are in there "own" Lair), that would define an instance,

else, if you´ll able to meet the others that have allready entered befor you, see there handywork(eg.dead Mobs, depleted sources, etc.), if it´s a permanent map... tadaaa... a new Region, the thing we ALL want... even if it is (and i bet it is) made with the tool that is called R²

+1
And when I saw a result of OP's crafting tool (sword with 33 speed, 23 parry and 607 damage) I was shocked. Its wrong way dear developers.

The rewards are easy to keep most people happy - materials that we can use to craft with new plans, *not* already made armor/weapons/etc.

As soon as you start dumping uber items in the world you kill off crafters. Crafters tend to be guild leaders, and/or players who are in it for the long term. So when you alienate them to the point of leaving you will also destroy a lot of community spirit with nothing to replace them except farmers.

The process has started with the event shields making shield crafting utterly pointless now.. please dont go further down this route, unless the 'vision' of SoR now is to create a WoW clone where everyone farms mobs/missions for uber drops, with crafting and the economy made a sad joke as they cant compete.

Agreed 100%.

It's already bad enough where shieldcrafters are being worked out of the 'market' by event shield rewards or where heavy armourers have to compete with Aen drops. (yeah, I never liked it though I have it; I'm probably one of those weird people that doesn't use it if it's not playermade. Nice decorative items they are though.)

Edit: but yay to it not being bland instances!

Yeeeeehaaaaaaa!! Large new areas. :D

Oh, and ditto on the uber drop concern. If you make the rewards uber, please make them burn out quickly [hp=20]. :)

Thinking about it... well it's pretty hard to come up with a satisfactory reward scheme. So comments welcome:

For starters, we assume that the ideal, utopic world where players would participate for the sake of participating is not applicable globally (some players would gladly). In other words, it is not absurd to state that globally, players expect rewards.

So what kind of rewards seem appropriate? equipment? materials? fame? xstals? there seems to be drawbacks with any approach. Better than crafted items will, undeniably cause farming, annoy crafters and it seems clearly something not we all want. Lower than crafted yet still excellent... well, it could be done, but it has to be good enough to be worth doing it... and we have grown to like the supreme :P Advantages: there are nevertheless players who would like not to have to depend on crafters (eeuk!) and I can understand them. As suggested, they could be made to have low durability, but what prevents os from just hoarding more, lower durability, higher farming rate.

Materials: what grade? what quality? how can we know it will not cause farming as well? farming already happens with suprenodes and boss respawns, some players complain about their inability to have access to these precious mats, so how could this be done ?

xstals, this seems good and nice, but ... I may be wrong, but I have the feeling that at the current rate they are produced, OP owners are not specially in HUUUGE lack of them (I'm not stating they are overflowing the GH, although in som cases are.. but.. for what I know, a fair share of players have near to none problems to have xstals and some have a steady supply to enable doubling xp in every action they do.

Other rewards? yes.... they can be consumables or non consumables. For consumable rewards, this seems a good trade-off to me. Non consumables as armor patterns have the inconvenient that .. well, once they are learnt, the feeling of lack of challenges comes back.

Fame? interesting as well, as long as fame becomes meaningful, allowing access to other aspects of the game (new titles). Fame is imho a much underutilized aspect of the game.. Tribes could bow to you, give you titles, manifest they are glad to see you, etc.

So what are your preferences, what qualifies for a fair reward?

I think crystals would be the safest reward. It would decrease the perceived "haves vs. have-nots" division (nonde) and the "PvP-only content" (grimjim).

Another possibility is armor that is of a new, different aesthetic design but has mediocre stats. A novelty, but not useful enough to put crafters out of business or encourage rampant and repeated farming. Armor made out of kitin carapace would be cool. :D

Yeah!!, That would realy be cool. :)
Or just some new Craftingplans for different designs or colors.
Some kind of "mix X with Y and get Orange" or whatever. ;)
