No kidding!
Some of the resource sale prices on the resources over 20 are just insane. Especially considering you are re-selling to newbies. Someone put up some Ante fiber for 20,000
per unit the other day (not sure if it is still there). Who the heck is going to pay 20,000 per unit on the newbie island? People are looking to mostly grind on newbie island, not build a set of perfect gloves or something... Just seems kind of strange to me.
I guess the seller is hoping people will buy without looking... because I can't imagine anyone sane would buy that stuff. Even if you had the crafting skills to really use it, and made something awesome worth hundreds of thou, again, who is going to buy it on newbie island?

yeps, it's
very good practice to set your max price filter before you start browsing merchants

theres a valid reason why you will find some mats on the vendor both silan vendors and mainland vendors...
People use the vendors as a 7 day storage location for crafting mats, ie. sell on to players at 10000% or so, the vendor will then hold the materials for upto 7 days, at any point the seller can retrieve the mats themselves at no cost.
There is a slight lack of storage space problem in the game atm, especially on Ruins of Silan, only 300 bag slots available makes mass crafting hard.
Vendor storage not ideal, but you will see alot of it. Not an exploit, aparently a valid way of doing things

This is simply using the NPCs as storage, a common practice since long, and although some of us objected at the beginning, official communication stated that it was perfectly ok, so players (including myself, mostly temporarily while moving things) use it -- specially with lack of other storage options. At least most put very high markup 9999% but yes, I've bought things like 40 fine mats for 8 milion and so on in the past..

Oh storage.. I did not think of that.
Actually that's pretty clever. Too bad I didn't think of it myself when storage was an issue (going back and forth to the Kitin jungle). Heheh.
