Just downloaded the installer this morning and received the Data1.cab broken or corrupt error.
New error? Or problem on my side?

I'd like to know if this is a known problem, before I abuse my internetconnection for another day to download the whole thing again.

data1.cab or data11.cab?

if its data1.cab then a redownload will be needed, if its data11.cab then follow the info in this post http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27184

It's data1.cab, I have the same problem.

and as to a re-download. I'm not waiting 3 hours while I could be playing a game that doesn't have archaic monthly fees. Especially when 90% of the files I did download still work. I'd love to try this game, but I'm already sour on it and I haven't even been able to install the installer yet.

If they can't make the files available for seperate download, then that's their loss of potential customers, no skin off my back... except of course for the wasted time downloading their crappy installer which I'm obviously not very happy about.

If anyone has data1.cab available for download somewhere, please lemme know because I want to give this game a second (or more accurately, a first) try, but it's not worth the download time, especially when I hear how most people have to try downloading it 5+ times.

why wait ? put on download and go play your (i'm sure very good) free2play games ;-) . (use torrent/dl manager and limit net speed, doh!)

install engine is InstallShield. install files are packed with zip to one single exe.

your crapy windows can't handle it ;-) there is probaly one dll in your system with wrong version. dunno which one as my fresh winxp sp2 install can handle Ryzom very well.

See thats the problem. I can't very well go playing around online while I'm downloading a file prone to corruption, can I now?

And that's another thing. There's a million times during that files life when it could have been corrupted, during compression, download, defrag on the server it's on, virus there, who knows. I'll tell you what didn't cause it to corrupt: my crappy windows. It also wasn't winrar extracting the files that made them go bad.

I apparently don't have a torrent downloader, even though I used to play an MMO that used torrent for game patches... which I don't understand. I suppose the game launcher program was also a torrent downloader, which begs the question why can't Ryzom just make it's game launcher/patcher program available for download since it's probably under a megabyte anyways.

one last try downloading it the old fashioned way (slowly while at work) and if it doesn't work, it wasn't meant to be. sadly.

The data1.cab errors can be due to corrupt Windows Installer or even due to faulty RAM and not just faulty download.

You may want to look into those possible issues.

http://www.memtest.org has a free utility for testing your system RAM

Downloaded the torrent version 4 times, 3 times i got a crc error, first two times both data1 and data11 had it, 3rd time only data11, last time none of the files in the self extracting exe had a crc error, but couldnt install anyway, because now
about 4 files couldnt be extracted from inside the cabs... fresh xp, virus free, servicepack 2 etc up...

i had to unpack the files manualy, and use the ryzom recover util, after that i managed to launch the game, it asked me to patch, oh why not, sure, and it began to download 2,9GB . . .

lovely

i hope the game itself will be better than this beginning :D
