I saw an ad and a few comics about Ryzom on the PvP (a webcomic about a gaming magazine) website, and decided to check things out a bit more in depth... after some digging for information, I applied for the beta and simply LOVED Ryzom. At release, the bother to get a subscription turned me off (didn't have a CC). A few months or so later I did get a sub going, and I've been playing almost continuously since then.

Re: How I ended up on atys
I first started playing Ryzom over two years ago now in early Open Beta 1. I was waiting for another MMO to enter beta and a friend advised me to try Ryzom as a stop gap. Well I fell in love with the game and havn't thought about leaving any time soon
Completely don't care about any other MMO now
Love Ryzom, and see my self staying for many years yet

Re: How I ended up on atys
I started to play in January 2005, I was ill since christmas and was getting bored with only sleeping and watching tv through the day. So I remembered, that there was a game, where was discussed there will be a linux client, too. So I checked it again, and found GFunk's [FAQ] Ryzom in Linux (The Unofficial HOW-TO) thread, and said to my self, I could give it a try, with a 14-day trial, I could experiment a bit.

Re: How I ended up on atys
I was first exposed to Ryzom through the cover disk on PC Gamer during Open Beta 1 (though I didn't get to install it first. ).
I had never played an MMORPG before and from the very first moment I logged in I was hooked. I played throughout open beta, was lucky enough to get into the Focus Beta and then played in the second Open Beta.
I even went as far as ordering a copy from amazon.de so I could play at release when we had the no UK supplier debacle.
I have dallied with a couple of other MMO betas/trials since but they haven't managed to hook me in the same way.
Still love playing, love the graphics, love the interaction. Still find mini-challenges to keep me coming back. Still want to be here to the end.

Re: How I ended up on atys
Two crazy friends of mine abducted me, dragged me to a little known village 15 miles from the nearest public transport. There they held me in front of a computer screen and made me watch them play. After 3 minutes of intensive brainwashing I decided it was time to sign up.
Thanks Jyudas and Kostika, once again you have kept me from roaming the streets causing trouble!

Re: How I ended up on atys
I started to play on christmasday 2004, tried the 14 day trial, needed more time so i subscribed for a month. Then the Community opened for me, got invited to my first guild by Nookie, Outlaws. After that i subscribed for a year at once.
I realized fast that this is the best community ever seen in an mmo.
And there are still players from Outlaws ingame, thats really cool
OOh, i forgot, i found the link to this game at Gamespot.com

Re: How I ended up on atys
A few years ago Penny-Arcade had a run of adverts for the open betas. I tried, but my computer couldn't run it back then. Several weeks after release I saw the game in Game, and never looked back.
Re: How I ended up on atys

Re: How I ended up on atys
Previously, I was into shooters and single player games, feared and respected (or hated maybe ) at LAN parties for my skillz at Battlefield and other shooters
But a friend (also not into MMORPG ) sent me a link to the Guildwars first E3 demo.. the 75k download for an entire world That was an incredible experience - but it only lasted for 4 days, so I started looking for MMO betas to fill the gap. Amongst those I found the first open beta weekend for SoR, and I was hugely impressed, but again it ended all too soon. I kept track of Ryzom then, and managed to get into the second open beta as well.
In the fullness of time, Guildwars and Ryzom were both released... and Guildwars was found lacking, even though I was in a strong guild, the game itself lacked 'soul' and failed to hold my interest.
Ryzom, on the other hand... has consumed mine
