yeah thats very true, its possible to make great stuff without access to boss mats and supremes ;)

Although this is true, don't get a false impression (to the o.p). Excellent and Supreme mats do in general outperform the choice counterparts. Given the addition properties and the modulo roundup that the craft materials have with the final stat, some choice components may be better than excellent and supreme with regard to the final product -- the infamous zun amplifier is the perfect example --, but these 'surprises' apply mostly to mixed formulas. it's pretty hard for a choice only item to be better than an excellentm but for some specific cases, like dodge, dmg, etc.

Yep, you can often get one or two stats nice and high using only choice *cough*+2 dodge LA*cough*
