There are some hunters that never lift a pick or craft an item. They can do quite well selling high level mats. In my experience, everything except points seem to sell nicely. There is often a glut of stings, claws and beaks though - I'm not sure why.

It all depends on the thing you're killing. The aggressive ones give alot more mats and you can kill them much more quickly then a forager can forage... provided you have a team, a healer and melee/elem is enough tho.

Second you can't run of for a moment when hunting to sell your material (no hawker near 90% of the time) because of your team. You have to split the gained material equally, even if you do get them faster then foraging.

And so a hunter is alot poorer in the dapper department. Cursesssss! *feels poor* :(
You say it's untrue then support what I said?

I can pull 20-25 mats per prospect. Others higher than me can pull a lot more. Show me a mob that drops that many mats in the same time it takes me to dig them; that you can kill on your own so that you get all 20 mats. Most I've ever seen a none boss mob drop is about 5 mats.

Most people hunt carnivores because they drop the most mats and they tend to drop a lot of blade. You either have to go out and spend hours hunting herbivore to get the counterweight and/or grip you need to craft something or 30 minutes harvesting. The glut comes from over-hunting and limited uses of the mats (blade/point - melee weapons only).
