I used to hav this same problem if not worse (as in i used to get 7 minutes approx ingame before an access violation) but thank to the guides and gm's on Klients (mainly Zerlin, theai) i fixed it.
I cleand the inside of my computer( all the dust and stuff)
Ran ryzom recovery which reset all the config files and now the game runs just fine. it is even running on better ingame graphic settings and with sounds on now ( it is the default set up) so it must work some how
Hope this fixes your problem as i no how annoying this can be
stop access violating please!

Well downgrading to 66.93 and turning off AEX didn't work and thanks to the last lil crash I now got me some dp

Re: stop access violating please!
My guess would have been RAM, although the crashes don't really occur often enough for this being a memory problem... Anyway, which test did you run? And how are your virtual memory settings in windows?
Go forth, live, learn, and most important, live together, not alone, for thou will soon discover there being a great danger, a danger thou never seen afore. The existence of Hominkind is at stake. The Kitin are still on the surface, great numbers of them. Who the Kitin are? Your worst nightmare...

Used a mem tester suggested by M$dpi209 wrote:My guess would have been RAM, although the crashes don't really occur often enough for this being a memory problem... Anyway, which test did you run? And how are your virtual memory settings in windows?
pagefile: custom initial 1536, max 3072. Winxp is still using the initial size so it looks like that's enough
However I renamed unpack to unpack.old and did a recover (5 times as suggested by Zerlin) and am now testing if that did the trick...
If this fails I'll be replacing the Via AGP drivers with the microsoft ones to see if that works
Re: stop access violating please!
If it wasn't memtest86, test your RAM with that one.michielb wrote:Used a mem tester suggested by M$

Re: stop access violating please!
cleaning up my install seemed to have worked, but it didn't so I've now replaced to Via AGP drivers with the micrsoft ones.
Testing in progress...
p.s. if this don't work I'll have mem test run while I sleep...

Re: stop access violating please!
Overheating? Try touching the RAM heat spreaders after running Ryzom for a while, if you've got any that is.

Re: stop access violating please!
something to try out as well: try setting the CL of your ram as high as possible (3) and the frequency of your ram as low as possible (200) and then check if you still get crashes. if not, you can slowly adjust these values back in the other direction. (all these changes are done in the BIOS)

Re: stop access violating please!
Is your memory dual channel? I found that was the cause of my problems. Memtest86 passed it all no problem and everything else on my machine would run without error except Ryzom. Once I swapped the memory round to disable the dual channel the problems went away. It does seem that Ryzom stresses a machine more than anything else I have used. Good luck hunting down the cause.
Re: stop access violating please!
Ok, I think It's time for an update...
After changing the AGP drivers and upgrading from 66.93 to 77.72 Ryzom seems to be running without a hitch. Sadly I've been a bad lil bug hunter and made 2 changes to my system at the same time so at this point I can't tell if it's the Via AGP drivers that caused the problem or if it's the Forceware 77.72 that solved it
As I recall the 77.72 driver was more stable but it also had some problems with the dynamic lighting in SoR. I now have some minor graphical glitches in FH with the lighting, it seems the driver has a problem picking the right lightmap for buildings in the city (at least I assume SoR uses lightmaps) From what I can tell it's related to the T&L on my card and the way it's handled through the driver but at this point your guess is as good (maybe better) as mine...
For my little test I've stressed my system as much as possible. I've ran an MP3 player in the back ground had Firefox running multiple tabs, Alt Tabbed to desktop and opened an explorer window while playing at some point I even ran X-fire and have it download a file. During all of this I've had no crashes (so far....)
I may upgrade to the 77.77 drivers again as I'm sure the problem does occur with those and see if the microsoft AGP driver works as well with those as it does with the 77.72
For others with similar problems and for future reference:
CPU P4 2,8 Ghz Hyper Threading (meaning 2 virtual CPU's)
Mainboard: MSI PT 880
Graphics: Gainward G-Force 5900GT (128 mb gfx mem)
Sound: Audigy 2ZS
Mem: No brand PC3200 (400 Mhz) 2x512 running dual channel
The main board has a Via chipset which may or may not have a bugged AGP 2.0/3.0 controller
I know similar problems with the Via AGP exist on AMD mainboard with a Via AGP bridge but I haven't been able to find any sources about it on P4 mobo's.
So If anyone here has a P4 and uses a Via chip set I'd love to know about any stability issues you might have. (of course if you don't have any I'd still like to know, it will help me analise the problem...)
