Be advised that it is certainly useful to have a download manager for bigger downloads. Also don't expect files who are much smaller than the reported file size to be fully functional. If in doubt if the download works or have trouble obtaining the installer package, try the BitTorrent download.

I must admit, I never fully tried the download, but I wouldn't try without the chance to resume after a disconnect.

Biggest problem historically, throughout all our early beta's as well... is the filesize itself when the file is done downloading.

Many folks don't have a stable connection and are not using a download manager... until they fix that, the problem is all theirs...

Those that do get the whole file often try to open the file before it is ready and create a problem of sorts there. Often after the file is downloaded it is either moved from your cache to your desktop (or whereveer you chose to have it rest). It is usually grabbed then by your virus scanner and it takes a very long time to scan a 3+ gig file.

You have to sit out this scan and execute the file later or if watching turn off your virus scanner as you get close to getting the file. During Beta we were having to download new sources quite often and this made life easier for us that had a fresh install every month.

If anyone is using Firefox, I strongly recommend using the built-in download manager. I used to run DAP (Download Accelerator Plus), and the number of invalid files I had was ludicrous.

If you can, I think you're best sticking with a DL manager that uses a single connection only (a-la Firefox builtin). DAP opens upto 8 connections and downloads sections of the file from each, which must require a huge amount of stitching for a 1GB+ file. In my opinion, this stitching does not work 100% of the time - with my bad files, I downloaded again immediately without any DL manager at all, and they were fine.

Also, I tend to stop my anti-virus software (AVG - free and great) from scanning files as I download them. This feature is pointless, unless you make a habit of choosing "run this file from it's present location". If you download an EXE before running it, you have time to do a manual scan of that file before you choose to run it.
