"What’s next after the outposts?

I don’t know yet. I have my wishes, but this is a production question and I don’t decide alone what goes next into the game."

"By the time we reach the complete opening of the Saga"

eeh.... now im a bit disapointed.
I should have listen to my inner voice long time ago and put the game on hold for a year or so.
The game we helped tested a year ago is so far form we got now.

"Today, we have less than 5 % of Atys open for exploration (okay, that’s a bit frustrating, but it’s also exciting for the future, don’t you think?)."

Excting? Oh yes. im almost jumping of joy of the thought. do i think we goining to see it this year?
Atm i hardly doubt it. It kind of sounds like more carrots to me.

I hope the Nevrax team understand many of us have totaly lost faith in the game with all the dreams and and visons what never come true.

May question is going to have to be:

What are they planing to do to keep players in game?
What are they plans for getting more players in?

i have to say that this letter winds me up more than it gets me excitied. I understand that you have a vision for SoR, a vision of monumental scope. That's great, it really is.

The problem is looking at the game as is there are lots of problems, lots of things not working (some of them like the RAID engine an integral part and reason that lots of us are here). We hear that that times are difficult for Nevrax, purse strings tightened, etc, etc. So the finite number of coders and artists is probably more finite than was originally anticipated.

Over the last few months there has been an open and frank exchange of idea's between the dev's and players; a good thing mostly although i am a little concerned that you will bow to the players a bit too readily now and not persue your concept of the game. The real problem for me is the way you introduce things like outposts, ryzom ring, 5% of atys open, etc. These things are worthless until u get the current feature set working, the combat balanced, more things to get 'end game' players excited about playing not waiting for some unspecified point in the future when outposts will arrive.

We need:
RAID's
balanced combat
new skill tree's
a lv300 area (even if players are still limited to lv250)

we dont need half your coders writing ryzom ring, playing with outposts, dreaming up future things!

phew, rant over..

*kicks the yubo that has been munching on my pointy hat of fanboi +3 while i was typing*

nice to read, it looks like a realy Unfolding world with a great story behind it, it's a bit like when I first heard and about SOR, reading for day's the scraps I could find, the forums, the features intervieuws etc. Not much of what got me excited is here today so I won't get to excited about anythig david writes :p

David, if you'd put your efforts to politics you could have let the french vote yes on the referendum for the EU constitution ;)

World Trek at 5% is about 6-8 hours at the best of runs.

Anyone got a spare 160 hours :D

lol 6 days non stop trekking
Hmmm I think we need a bigger bags just to carry all the TPs we'd get from that treck

lol i think youre right :)

Also makes me wonder what the max lvl for the planet will be if 5% = lvl 250 , he did mention two other races (Dark Matis and Nomad Fyros) so I suppose youd be able to make chars for these and they would have their own 1-250 regions , i also supposed there would be Tryker and Zorai lost civilisations but if their lands are the same size as ours thats still only 10% -so max lvl of 2500 ? or will we have to make new chars to access these other lands ?

When David speaks of 5% I guess he means the whole saga, where Atys is only one piece of, a small one I guess, something to get startet and to build up a regular playerbase that attracts other players without having to advertise to much (expensive!).

/speculate mode: ON

So, we right now might be able to see... lets say 25% of Atys, I expect all areas to widen up with lvl300 areas, which would add another 10% each, if they are wide enough.
Life there would always be challenging, because player skill would be limited to 250, so it would be the perfect area for highlevelteams to explore and trek like in the old days *remembers dozens of treks* ...
Lets guess there are 5 (10% each) or 10 (5% each) of these regions to wide up Tryker, Zorai, Fyros, Matis and of course the roots, then we have 75%.
The remaining 25% could be the starting grounds and regular areas for the 2 new races - and another 2 special areas of level 300 for them.

Also interesting: being able to get a mission as matis or fyros to change race to the dark/traveling ones - which would help against over population in fyros and Matis compared to Tryker and Zorai - so far this all sounds logical to me...

During our exploration of the new areas NEvrax could spend some time on coding RP-Objects and other interactive objects (guildhall-addons etc) to make life on atys more fun and give players more options to individualise. During all that developement also PvP and PvM are enhanced to better suite the aspect of highlevel-content through outposts, kitin-nests and spontanious raids, as well as huge and challenging events and hundreds of quest...

Next step is Ryzom Ring, which will surely keep us busy for a long time - which of course is used by nevrax to code another planet, which would mean to get another 25% of the Saga - in my calculations the whole Sage then would finally contain 4 planets plus all those player-created areas of R² - I could even think of a contest to collect player-created countrys for the 5th planet and we already have 125% of the saga... woohaaa

/speculate mode: OFF

Fantasy is a weird thing... don't you think?

I'm really looking forward to what we will se within the rest of the year, now that Nevrax startet talking to us we want to see that words can become real ;)
