The folks that write poems and speak of lore are role players.
The folks that answer the call of Jena/Ma-Duk are playing their role.
One is actions, one is words.... completely different parts of the community.

I had always wondered why I disliked standing about and yakking at weddings and yet relished the action of playing my character's part in the world.

Done, [url=http://is1.itr.no/~zyrom/wiki/doku.php?id=ryzommagick1 wrote:...I think a list over event characters past and present would help a lot (updated when needed).
It will help new players immensely, and give everybody an idea about what is happening.
Think of it as a 'who's who' list, it will have the characters name (obviously), notes on race and major alignments and a list of activities (was at <event>, did <something or other>).
Some background story would be nice as well, and maybe a picture as well.

Re: Suggestion: Event character list
They aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. Honestly, there are people who treat an MMORPG like a giant chat room. There are others who treat it like a sport or a board game. According to my terminology, neither of them are role players (and neither of them are playing their roles except superficially). It is possible to have the tavern chat and the great wars driven by the exact same things - character motivations.vguerin wrote:The folks that write poems and speak of lore are role players.

But it takes a long time for that to develop, and there is nothing wrong with playing an MMORPG as a video game or as a chat room. But both contexts are necessary for role play - you can't have role play without conflict, and you can't have role play without regular interactions.
Personally I don't think we should draw dividing lines here; I think war generals and wandering troubadours should be equally represented in any collection of characters.

Indeed, if there is an event of some kind, it is an event character.madnak wrote:Personally I don't think we should draw dividing lines here; I think war generals and wandering troubadours should be equally represented in any collection of characters.
As the range of types of event is very big, some char's are seen more often than others, but they are still there.
Homins (or players if you will) have different interests in the various events, therefore you can't say which event char is important or not (to the homin).
And hence all should have their place on the list, then homins can make up their own minds.
