What ever happened to the benefits of fame?

Post by thanakar »

Ever since patch 1 I've been trying to figure out why I invested hour upon hour in getting my fame at 100 for both Green Seed and Matis. With a high I was receiving significant discounts on raw materials when purchasing them from matis merchants. 1 q50 raw would run me 735 dapper vs the 854 base price. Ever since patch 1 that has gone out hte window and it is still not right with the most recent patch. When buying teleport tickets I am shown a price of 9481 but when I pay for it the ticket is 12250....

Right now the fame system is pretty much a worthless waste of time. The only effect I have seen from the fame system is that one NPC group attacked me. Of course I have worse fame ratings with other groups and they don't attack me. Add into this the fact that the devs have actually come up with a system that allows you to ignore what your fame levels completely during events and the fame system becomes even more pointless.

Yeah, and what's worse, is that fame gave people some sense of content (depending on how you viewed it - I would load up on missions, have a set plan in mind, and hit every mission I could do while running across Cities of Intuition twice). I'm sure that it's only a matter of time before the fame system is worked out and used to its fullest potential... but for now, it is just flat out worthless.

As it stands, its just a grind on the side while you try and find random encyclopedia entries. Benefits are rather non-existant, unless you do serious purchasing of items from vendors (teleport pacts not withstanding). One of the many different things you can plug away at while waiting for the game to evolve.

I find it an entertaining way to keep myself busy if i'm bored with craft/harvest/magic/fight leveling. Don't really make much money off from it (hardly enough to cover the port passes to get around).

I'm guessing (hopefully) that there will be a later benefit (like you need to have a certain fame level to get the rites for the encyclopedia). Can only wait and see on it.

12/23/04 Patch Notes
Thursday 23rd, 2004 - patch 39
BUG FIX
[ F A M E ]

. Guild fame may have been erroneously reported on players' global fame. Now, this fame is displayed correctly. Be aware that, as the fame is correctly computed now, you may loose some of your spawn points that were fame related, and that you may have acquire because of the faulty fame calculation. On the other hand, you can now get the one your fame entitles you to have.
