I think helbreat is just saying that once jonhop gets to high lvl, he'll really begin to see the benefits. That he'll be able to knock things down quicker and kill them before the melee people get chance to hit them.

He's not putting melee fighters down or anything mate. :)

What i did, was getting my Off magic up to 35 in noobland. Then, i went healing in teams, on the Mainland, which was the easiest to do. Then, when my healing was ll 45, i started a 2-man team, which is a very handy method to lvl:

My team(guild) m8 was lvl 40 melee, and also wanted to lvl. We were fighting Baying Cloppers for almost 3k xp, so the best and max, for us to handle.
We took rounds in healing, my m8 was lvl 30 in healing too, and could heal a nice amount to cover the cloppers hits. We both had good amps, all stats minimal 60%. I was able to hit the clopper pretty good, and same for him. So we both got to around lvl 55 in a couple of hours, just because of taking care, and making well adjusted team.

A good team is, and will stay, the key to lvling straight. I hope this helps, and if you ever have questions about magic, pm me ingame, as Nae.

Thanks for all the advice :)

I have kind of hit a sweet spot now. Ive hit the Zora mainland and while my magic is 10 behind fight, it levels up at a nice rate and the spells are quite effective :)

I cast a shot or two doing maybe 20% damage to the creature, then slap it till death takes it. Happily soloing away, though once i have a nicer grasp of the game i will start grouping :)

On the grouping, if I group as a healer, do i look for a group with people who have a fight / offensive skill close to my defensive magic skill not my main mellee skill? :) I think thats right :)

Yes, as close as possible :) Also remember your XP will be split if you use two skills in a fight (soloing) - it's tricky at low levels, but if you want to match your magic to your melee, you're best taking down mobs with magic only for a while. Of course, if you end up in the dirt too much, you'll need to go looking for a team to level at the same rate.

I found that harvesting helps with this, if you enjoy harvesting at all. Take down a couple of mobs, and do some harvesting while your sap/HP regens - be wary of explosions and gas tho, if your HP is quite low :)
