I have heard many ideas from other player as to what the source mode does, the last being that its no longer relevant, so does anyone know for sure because what I see is this.
Source Mode 0 to 5 no difference to explosions or destruction of source, the speed at which they die seems random be it a 0 or a 5.
I have noticed an increase in speed the better the Quality of mats i.e. Choice needs hardly any care Supreme needs lots but again not 100% on that one.
I thought 0 was the best to get with fewer explosions or lesser explosions and source deaths and 5 is the bad one big bangs and more of, but if Im not watching and I get one the power is just the same 0 or 5.
So basically whats going on with this side of harvesting?

well i'm just a low level arvester but i found that serten ways of harvesting aplay to serten forms of nodes. I use q50 armfull extract on a node of 2 with max q200 my stansa is agressive spead 1 rate 2 and q50 counterpart 4. i never have an explosion or death of the node. i extract 3 mats of q50 and get 1100xp. On a node of q1 i get explosions if i dont care but the life is stabel. On a node of 5 its total loss explaosion and death of the sorce.

The behaviour of the source node depends on the source mode.
This includes how fast the bars go down (for example: source mode 0 lowers the danger bar faster than the health bar) and the damage that the mode will do once it explodes / intoxicates.
Instead of just telling you which ones do what, i'll let you find out the different behaviours of modes yourself, although theres one thing you should know: source mode 4 does the MOST damage!

Source mode 4 has the deadliest of explosions, that's a fact. Close second is mode 5. However, source mode 4's gas eruptions ain't that deady, if memory serves me right.

Alright some more explanation then:
Damage depends on the ql your source is currently at when the damage bar goes under 0 and/or the ql you are aiming for.
One toxic cloud does around 1/3 - 1/5 of the damage that an explosion would do.
Explosion damage is related to toxic cloud damage, with this i mean there is no mode with low explosion damage and high toxic cloud damage, or the other way around. Either both damages are high (mode 4 !), medium( 3 different modes) or low (2 different modes)
Just a little reminder, but every time your source hits the ql you are extracting for or explodes/toxicates, the source mode changes!

Perhaps its different for different mats. I do seeds and amber mainly.

Yeah, I find when I get mode 0 followed by mode 4 its one of the very few times that I can get the full exp for a pull, not the 13% or 20% exp reduced ones you get when you have an explosion or kill a source.trenker wrote:My mode 4 is the safest, followed by mode 1.

I also don't have mode 4 blow up on me, but that's probably because I use all gentle so the source dies first.
0 for me is deadly though. As I said on the other thread, would be very interesting to get a comparison.
