Well I think if it's not that difficult for them to make the changes to support Linux, then they should. If they can make the changes for Radeon Card users verses G-Force, then they can certainly do this I would think.

what else would replace windows beside another operating system? even if you change the explorer shell, you are still running windows, a new clown suit doesn't change the fact that you're still at the circuslyrah68 wrote: I was calling for a windows replacement, NOT another game with a linux engine.
i'd like to know what game engines you think are ported to linux already. cause i'm sure i've named more than you can think of
actually the games AREN'T graphically challenged. let me do a small list of games for linuxlyrah68 wrote: Granted I haven't looked into the state of Linux, but when I did. http://icculus.org has a list of tons of "graphically" challenged linux games
if you think they're graphically challenged you've got some reconsidering to do
linux isn't good at business apps, well really only accounting software, they've got the rest covered already.
btw incase you didn't know linux was used to do all the special effects for the scooby do movies, lord of the rings and all the pixar movies and some of the star wars stuff
what does this have to do with anything? i'm a business owner and linux advocate, i've always got time to learn new things.lyrah68 wrote: But then I am a full time mom and business owner, I don't have time to spend looking for something better than the latest MS bovine scatology.

This is the problem with this thread...thexdane wrote:linux advocate
Computers are a tool.
Software, including games, are tools.
Operating systems are tools.
Use the tool best for the job, in the case of games, it is almost always windows. To be brutally honest, I would be rather pissed if nevrax wasted the dev time needed to port the client over to linux, instead of spending that money on something that would actually effect the game in a positive way. The number of folks who would not play the game if they could not play it in windows, is such a tiny fractional minority, that it's not even a statistical blip.
Re: GFUNK's plea to Nevrax and the community...
Windows is not the best tool for the job. Its the most used tool for the job. Even the Windows user would benefit from having a Linux client :
1- The Linux mmorpg players might be very interested in Ryzom = more players
2- Open Source means people at home can iron out bugs in the client, those bugs could also be present in the Windows version.
3- It also means they can improve the performance of the client, and again the Windows user could benifit from that.
4- It would give more visibility to Ryzom = more players again
Im no computer programmer, my personnal experience with open source is DeviceNet (open source automation technology). So this might be a little biased... feel free to correct me if im wrong in my statements.

trosky wrote:1- The Linux mmorpg players might be very interested in Ryzom = more players
It's such a statistically small number that it is simply not worth wasting dev time on... especially when most of those folks are perfectly capable of booting into windows to play.Unfortunately for eGenesis, the total number of players on Linux is dramatically smaller than the number on Windows, representing less than 1% of total players -- 101 subscribers out of 7,063
