Another poll: should harvesting remove your DP gained through battle?
Re: Another poll: should harvesting remove your DP gained through battle?
I'm mainly a forager/crafter. On occasion the guild I'm in will guide me into new areas to forage. Sometimes we don't make it and die. Since DP is calculated off of your highest skill, I get about 130K of DP per death because of my foraging level. My melee/mage level is more than 100 levels lower than my foraging level, so it is virtually impossible for me to work off DP unless I am foraging.
Re: Another poll: should harvesting remove your DP gained through battle?
Interesting, very interesting indeed.If battle DP and harvest DP were tracked separately, a pure fighter would not care about his harvest DP. Similarly, a pure harvester would not care about his battle DP.
Just some thoughts, although stuff that is not fair, would happen.
If you were a pure fighter, ran by a harvester who blew a source and killed you
0 = melee exp dp
1000 = harvestor dp
You start back at town, brush off the dirt, dust and mud, run back out into the wilderness, you get surrouned by gingos who haven't eaten there fill yet, you know your going to die, so you switch your weapon out for a pick that is used in harvesting.
You die, well you had a pick, so you take harvestor dp.. then you have...
0=melee dp
2000=harvestor dp
Same could be true for harvesting, now if the dp is branched as possibly suggested.. say your a 1h melee by trade, so before you die, you switch out to a skill you would never level, theoredically you would never have dp that you would care about.
Interesting.
For those who know about today, I have a supprise for you tomorrow.

Re: Another poll: should harvesting remove your DP gained through battle?
It could just be a proportionate thing. If you take x amount of damage while actively fighting, and y amount of damage while harvesting (not just with your pick in your hand), then x / (x + y) * c = DP in fighting, and likewise for harvesting.zumwalt wrote:Interesting, very interesting indeed.

Re: Another poll: should harvesting remove your DP gained through battle?
There's already a nice system in place that rewards different DP removal based on different skills, and it even varies for everyone on the server -- DP removal is based on skill levels. Player A may be able to harvest to remove DP, while player B may not. I prefer this system to anything more simplistic and more restricting.
EDIT: No, I'm not primarily a harvester, and harvesting to remove DP is a slow process for me. This is my opinion, though.

Re: Another poll: should harvesting remove your DP gained through battle?
no, melee DPzumwalt wrote:If you were harvesting and were attacked, would the DP be harvesting?
no, harvest DPIf you had a sword equiped and ran by a harvestor that blew a source and killed you, would you take a melee dp?
no, just melee DPIf you were wielding a 1h weapon and died to a monster carying a gun would the dp you take be 1h or ranged?
melee DPIf you were wielding a gun during battle and died would you take dp on ranged or hand to hand since it bit you to death?
no, either melee DP or harvest DP depending on how you diedIf you were crafting while in the forest and you got killed would you take crafting dp?
1 melee DPIf it took you 5 hours harvesting to get 400 mats on your mektoub, and a ragus came along and ate your packer, killed you, and ran off, how much dp would you take?
noWould you ask that a packer have dp, so that he can die, be reborn in town with all your stuff and you have to help your packer work off the dp?
no crafting DP, either melee DP or harvest DP depending on how you diedIf you died while crafting heavy armor in the wilderness, would you take heavy armor dp or would you take crafting dp in general?
noIf you could run by a medical office in the game and pay to have your dp removed, would you opt to do this?
noIf you died and instead of having dp, you lost literal expierence in a given skill would you opt for this type of death penalty?
not muchIf you did not get any dp for dieing in general, would you care about death?
Re: Another poll: should harvesting remove your DP gained through battle?
Switching to pick would not affect anything.zumwalt wrote:Interesting, very interesting indeed.

Dieing by mob = melee DP
Dieing by explosion = harvest DP
If you can switch to your pick fast enough AND cause an explosion to kill you, then harvest DP, even if most HP loss was due to mob
Re: Another poll: should harvesting remove your DP gained through battle?
Death Penalty should not become skill specific, it's a very bad idea. The current system works fine. thx.

Re: Another poll: should harvesting remove your DP gained through battle?
Why limit the system to melee or harvest dp, when there is also crafting and magic tree's?
What about a mage that never cares about harvesting or melee?
What about a crafter who doesn't care about melee or harvesting, but uses magery?

Frankly, I thinking it's a *&%^ing stupid idea and I would MUCH rather Nevrax spend time working on countless other things.amcyr wrote:Why is it a very bad idea?
