A plea to the devs and Nevrax!

Post by dazoo »

First and foremost... call me whatever you want, but I do love this game. Enjoy it much more than any other game I have played, that of which is another conversation for another day...

And this is also not a thread that I need advice from anyone and their little sister on. The recover program is nice, the advice on the graphic settings is also appreciated... using a different mouse, adding more physical memory, disabling this, disabling that, wrapping the house in tinfoil, getting the cat spayed, so on and so forth...

I have tried everything that anyone has suggested all to no avail... I only want a response from the devs on this one... and you'll see why by the end of this post. I would like an answer that I have been unable to find anywhere else.

I hope that somewhere, somehow, those little reports that I have been sending from the "client_ryzom_rd.exe Access Violation" window have been compiled into a nice little database... So you guys see what the problems are...

Simple question, with quite possibly a long answer.

What is the perfect system/os for running Ryzom? I want details... explicit details. Part numbers and manufacturers would be welcomed. I want software versions, I want driver versions... I want to know what the devs/programmers designate as the perfect machine for this game. You guys made the game, You should know, and I would like to know too. In fact, I think alot of us would like to know.

I won't accept "there is no perfect machine for this game... there are too many variables, hardware, software, blah blah blah." "Check the requirements on the box." Not good enough... explicit details please.

Thanks.

hate to say it but there is NO PERFECT SYSTEM

you won't get an answer from the devs nor will you get one. you also won't get an answer containing any part numbers

any dev builds a program around a certain set of specs that manufacturers give them for their video cards and also cpu speed at the time. they don't go to the store and pick up a video card and design a game around that. they do have prefered cards, this time it's nvidia, that they will use for the prefered card

i know you won't like my answer but frankly i don't care, it's the truth so deal with it

No need to get all huffy on me.

Your answer is fine, it's your opinion and I respect that.

One could assume that the program is designed around those specs, and to perform flawlessly within the said specs, that those specs would pretty much make the perfect system for that particular program.

It was a sad attmept at humour on my part requesting part numbers. My apoligies if I offended anyone in doing so. (read with sarcasm)

Step one... get an nVidia card. I can do that. In fact, I will even contact them myself, and get there recommondation on what product would be the absolute best for my particular application.

Now on to the next step... Processor speed and type anyone?

I have a P4 2Gh with 1Gb RAM, a PCChips MB, a Nvidia 440 MX 64Mb card(colors/textures are /GREAT/, a litle lag in cities), a radeon hercules 9000 128Mb card(colors/textures are ok, would probably be better if I had never seen them on my other card, and no lag anywhere. I can play in OpenGL or D3D, but cannot patch with this card). I also have a radio DSL-equivalent connection. Other than problems patching while using the Radeon card, I have never had a crash.

I have a P4 2.8GHZ W/HT, Radeon Pro 9200 128MB, 80GGIG WD HD, 1GIG DDR. I run mine in D3D and rarely have lag and when I do it's very minimal. I can play 5 to 12 hours and might crash only once.

Out of the nine systems I've played Ryzom on since I've begun (about 40+ hours on each), this is the only system I've found that doesn't crash:

INTEL PENTIUM 4 520 2.8 GHZ 800MHZ FSB
ASUS P5GD1-VM
CRUCIAL 1GB DDR400(512MB X 2)
WD 36GB 360GD SERIAL ATA 150 10,000RPM 8MB BUFFER HARD DRIVE
ASUS AX700PRO-TVD-256MB ATI X700PRO PCI EXTREME

I'm usually pro-AMD, so this kinda pissed me off. Anyway, I run Windows 2000 SP4 on all systems.

I have a system that is statistically better than this (RAID array, more RAM, better video card) and it still has crashed on that as well.

But so far, after about 48-52 hours on the above machine playing a Zorai character, no crashing what so ever.

The true test will be when I can get this purple guy to Aeden Aqueous.

Thanks for the information so far :) This is the kind of information I was hoping for. Looks like I need to start putting together a shopping list.

Thanks once again!
