Yet another view of the game from a new player after the trial period

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

I think the player community and general atmosphere of Ryzom beats the cack out of most other games I have tried, and has to be the main reason why it has managed to survive such a drawn out and tortuous beta process!!
Now, if some of the better community "tools" or features from SWG could be incorporated I don't think there'd be another game to touch it :)

I enjoyed my time in SWG quite a lot, but the lack of real quests ultimately proved to be it's downfall for me. I *really* hope that Ryzom comes up with the goods in this department and brings in some "Instanced dungeon" type missions with interesting npc characters to work with and against (possibly with some voice acting?!) for teams to work through.. there's only so much level grinding a guy can take!! Guildwars and WoW seem to have some interesting ideas in this area, but they seem to miss out on the community building side of things..

lol swg quests were quite amusing.... i used to party my AT-ST and get 2 30-40k missions which had a good chance of givving janta blood/hide from loot wasnt much of a quest rather more of a grind to earn money :D

comunity tools in swg were good tho even if the search options were rather limited and the message that said someone was nearby to you with a 100% match in personality was quite a funny one would be like deposit tracking when trying to find an ideal wife

Heheh I used to team up with my pets for better missions too :D still, SWG quests were pointless after a few goes don't you think? What REALLY used to annoy was working your way down the geonosis mines or whatever, get to the big nasty at the end, only for some swine to pop out from behind a rock at the last minute and stick the fatal blow in, and swipe your hard earned loot!!

Guildwars seems like a better style of questing to me, each team gets their own "instance" of the mission to play through, adapted to their skill levels, and it plays much more like a single player RPG quest would. I really enjoyed the Guildwars trial :)

Anyone who is new and on the matis island when im on, look me up.

Character - Arkon

and the other lands for that matter, i like making new friends on here :)

A few of us are toying with the idea of starting a guild aimed at the new "second wave" (trial > subscription) players - a kind of lets band together and help each other thing. Good idea/bad idea im not sure yet. But we'll have to see if there are enough of us.

Not to disrespect any of the existing guilds - they are full of really nice folk - but they have a lot of members of high levels that dont get much out of spending time with a load of newbs - in game i mean - the social aspect would be their reward.

Whereas i think a new guild run by and having a membership entirely of newer players would mean they can explore and learn the game together. and probably all get killed together hehe

But well see anyway - nothing concrete has been decided yet.

lol damn the acklay i have spent many a few hours arguing with someone who has stolen the kill on it at the last min wouldnt have been so bad if the loot wasnt so random if any at all lol

wars were great fun in swg the pvp side of it was great i used to use tkm/heavyswordsman/fencer as a pvp combo all it lacked was protection from rifleman but you could eat an unsuspecting jedi alive :D hunting jedi with bounty hunters was my own way of earning a fast bounty lol

Actually one of the really nice features of Ryzom is that "high levels" can team up wth "newbies" profitably for all concerned!

The "no set progression" profession system means that whilst someone may be a level 200 2h fighter, there will be some other "profession", (defsensive magic, 1h weapons, ranged weapons, etc, etc) at which they will be quite low level.

This means that relatively "high levels" can participate in "low level" groups simply by opting to use thier lower level skills.

In this way my own guild (RoA) has successfully run hunts teaming lvl 25 "newbies" with level 150+ "vets" - without the "newbies" feeling they were hangers on :D .
