Characters and multi-tasking skills...question...
Characters and multi-tasking skills...question...
Greetings. I made my first character and of course I wanted to try everything... Because of this I have all sorts of skills and no real focus. Recently I entered the mainland and feel like I am trying to lvl too many skills at once... Will this present troubles in the future? Would it be better to start another character and focus on specific skills and train those? Please help me... Thanks.

It doesn't hurt you at all in any way. Being well rounded can help a lot as well, it allows you to do things like rez/sap your healer/mage or use larger hp credits in your spells.cirun wrote:Greetings. The only 'downside' to leveling multiple trees, is that your death penalty is based off your highest skill. This means that if you are level 140 harvest and trying to level a bunch of level 30-60 melee/magic skills, you will get about 100k DP which takes a long time to work off with lower level skills. It's not really a problem though since you just use that higher skill or take a few more kills to clear it.
Re: Characters and multi-tasking skills...question...
Until about level 150, having Multi skills is actually a blessing. For instance, in crafting it is HARD to level jewel crafting enough to earn another skill (HINT get the diadem form ASAP and the bonuses to stats ASAP if you are going to bother with jewelering any), BUT it is EASY to level your weapon crafting. SO...you gain the Skill points by weapon crafting, BUT all the SP collect in ONE pool, TA DA enough SP to buy the Diadem form, then you can grind out a few pointless UN stat bonused diadems for the SP to add your FIRST bonus, I would go for ummm HP's of course.
Same thing goes for agressive schools as well, for instance Magic. It is EASY to gain XP in offensive, just nuke in EVERY battle and/or use it to pull when nuke pulling won't over agro (like cloppers, if you don't taunt pull those, *shudders* well just don't nuke pull them...it aint pretty! fortunately the end is quick...if painful). SO you can spend the SP from one on the other.
The trouble comes when one branch SO outstrips the other and passes it. Then you have the SP to spend...but not enough level to buy the new skills. Only thing to do is to level that branch enough to gain a level in it, THIS can hurt! Especially in Defensive affliction, and in crafting Jewel crafting is SLOW without the diadem form! (even with it, it can hurt. How many STACKS of seeds and amber/eyeballs can YOU quarter/dig up??!!)

The only trouble is the amount of time you have to spend leveling all those skills.cirun wrote:Recently I entered the mainland and feel like I am trying to lvl too many skills at once... The only reason I can think of to start a new character is to change your appearance, race and/or name.

Or starting mainland, I must admit to having tried EVERY race to see just how HARD it is to get from one race to the other. It seems that from Fyros to Matis is pretty much the easiest (haven't tried Matis to Fyros, but I don't see any reason for it being THAT much harder/easier).
