Noticed a flaw in the caster team window

Post by jackmor »

I normaly tank but try to keep my casting up. Tonight I tried somthing that i thought was there and its not. I was leveling my heal and thought id throw out some stun but the field of view was blocked. So, I went to the team window and targeted the puller to use assist and there was no way to do it without moving out to the battle and targeting him there.

Now I just thought i could do it from the team window. It just seems like an obvious think to have in place.

Has anyone tried this or put it in the wish list?

i just learned last week that you set up a macro. press 'k', then select new key. the category is ACTIONS, the action is Target the targets target. then set your launch key (s).

Unfortunately that doesn't work well either at long range it seems. If I'm 50m out doing magic I won't be close enough for the macro to work. :(

You can do it from the team window. Maybe you weren't close enough to target? I typically have 1 hotkey set up for the main tank and click everyone else in the team window.

I was close enough that is sure. But, ill have to see about these macros and hot bottons and tell you guys how it works.

It just seems that it should be there already.

I have had the same problems, I usually have to wait for any team member that is pulling to get within 50m before i can assist on his/her target. Is this as it should be? Has anybody else found a workaround? I mean its not that essential because the max i can throw a spell at is 50M, but it would be nice to already have that spell underway as soon as the mob reaches 50 rather than having it hit when its at 45 or 40m.

Assist is ranged based!?!? Someone please confirm, would explain so many things and end the frustrations.

I can say that targeting IS ranged, I think it is either 50 m or 60, not exactly sure, BUT I do know that switching from healing to nuking in LESS than tight close groups (AKA mage ALMOST in melee range) is frustating at best. I try to stick to nuker OR healer (mostly due to switching out amps, I tend to have two, a healer speed, and a nuker power/speed, and one is NOT that good at the other), but even ignoring amps...targeting the tank and assisting is HARD to do, even with macro, if the mob isn't in melee range.

THIS...honestly...will be an issue at higher end and when crowd control matters, that is IF we can wake sleeping mobs or break others links.

I'm so used to having to use my mouse to target from other games. It works suprisingly well in this game; at least enough to allow changes between healing and nuking ( better yet defensive afflliction ;) ). Use of the keyboard for anything else but targeting is a must though.

I will admit that the EQ raid/melee system worked rather well, loot system stank on ice...but...they had chat systems, raid engine and the assist system down to a science I tell ya!
