Character running speed

Post by bkwrm13 »

During one of the pre-trip classes trips last week (thanks Gfunk) my suspicion that my Matis character runs slower than others was confirmed to be fact. Wearing light/no armor and only a half-full inventory, I was consistently in the last half of the pack as I tried to play catch up and avoid being dog/kirosta-meat.

Aside from server-lag and local system issues, are there any character attributes that affect running speed aside from power stanzas? A friend suggested dexterity might help, but I hate to waste SP before confirming that.

I also seem to remember that any racial differences in running speed were removed in an early patch.

Any ideas?

FPS seems to have an effect on it since people with older graphics cards seem to generally run a bit slower than those with faster ones. I also suspect the height slider affects it, my reasoning is because height adjusts your character animations's speed.

Hmmm. Both of those could possibilities since I do get FPS in the 15 - 20 range. I also cranked my character height to the max to make a gangling oddball. :)

Too bad I couldn't run a race between my Matis and my Trkyer alt (min. possible height) to test out that theory.

I made my Tryker the min. height - we can test sometime if you like :D I also chose the minimum bust, and I'd laugh endlessly if the big ones "got in the way" while you ran. ;)

Heh, i have the same problem too. With no armor, minimal bulk, and on follow, i always seem to fall behind when running in a straight line. Also maxed out height. Fps in the 20-30 range outside cities.

Sorta just gave up, this has been with me ever since beta. Just manually zigzag and take shortcuts , even usee speed up if neccessary to catch up :D
Am i supposed to write something witty here ?

I set my matis to tallest it could go. I tend to end up outrunning most or at least in the front end of the pack (even in full armour). In game generally i have to stop and wait for others to catch up (those not of the same height anyways)

The shorter your character (i think) the slower you will run.

Is that what it is. I'm always running faster than most and had no idea why.

Heh, its the only explanation i had. But i always been maxed on height and always seemed to be the case. I could leave yrk about 5 mins after the group, and end up arriving at the destination we was going to before them lol.

Thats the key people, long legs :D

Generally though in one of the patches, all races were set to run at same speed. But still the leg length seems to be a factor in speed.

I wonder if we could get some confirmation from Nervrax on this.... formerly, I was under the impression that the stuff at the character creation (sans the pack selection) was purely cosmetic.

I have been wondering this to, I am a slow runner. MY Matis character is very tall though, I think the tallest and I run slower than my group. I get about 20 fps average, and my CPU is maxed out the whole time I run the game. I think it is a system limitation, my system is not providing updates as fast to the server that say I am still running or something.

A Nevrax confirmation would be nice here. In January I am building a new comp and will update as to my run speed then on the new system.
