I agree with this statement, but using PvP to do that is not a good idea in my opinion. And as it stands now from what little I saw yesterday, the prime roots got a bit more challenging.zumwalt wrote:I am in disagreement that harvestors should be allowed to easily and uncontested, get generic mats that can craft any racial armor, sure they can be available to get, but make it very challenging.

To all harvestors out there, you have until January the 8'th to mass harvest the prime roots if you are not going to be dealing with it after PvP goes live.
After January 8'th it will be up to the good will and honesty of the general player base to leave harvestors alone in the PR while they gain mats.
This is from Path 2 notes that PvP is going to go live in certain unmentioned areas, so assume that PR is one of them.

I am not a fan of how they plan to implement PvP, but don't use the "sky is falling" approach to it man. I personally don't expect much more than an occasional annoyance from the griefers. In the time it takes for those that do pose a threat to me, to catch up to me, I should have several guild mates already teleported to the zone to hunt them down. After they kill the griefer and rez me the score will be griefer 0 - digger 1. This is our plan (as well as other guilds I have seen chime in) and we will actively pursue these folks...zumwalt wrote:To all harvestors out there, you have until January the 8'th to mass harvest the prime roots if you are not going to be dealing with it after PvP goes live. I am not against PvP at all, just open PvP... I want a place to go when I need a break from the normal stuff. I can zone in and expect to get attacked and maybe even test out some new tactics with no penalty. I don't want my normal stuff interrupted more than it has been already with all the changes to mobs/harvesting.
I will not worry while digging, I am already constantly on guard for patrols... I will just add blue dots to my aggro list

Well, I have yet to see a difference in how they count an actual death.
So the death counter will be skewed as it is, here is why.
They implament PvP (open) in the roots, someone catches you off guard, nails you, and then resses you, nails you, resses you, and keeps this up.
Every time you go unconscious, the system treats it as a Death (aka the message, mob xxx has killed you)
I have been working extensivly with the logs over the course of the past few weeks, deciphering how they record what and when, along with what each recorded line means.
Although, grieving in such a manor, wether purposely or not, or with friends or not, you are getting the points for the kill in open pvp.
Say 2 friends get together, go to some place very remote, and kill, wait a minute, res, kill, wait a minute, res, so on so forth, they are now at the top of the ladder, and can watch the ladder and keep this going.
As far as pvp and hunting down greivers, that will be nice in a purely lagitimate scenario with honest playing.
I seriously doubt that players will just randomly attack someone that they do not know the power of, so the pvp is pretty much going to be a non issue for the most part.
Were all pretty civil to each other, help each other, so on so forth.
I just personally see the pvp system going inplac to soon, thats all.
I am also of the purest visionary mind state that the developers should focus on fixing or implamenting outposts as a first step to pvp, since the code they are using on ATS is the same (with teaks here and there) as it was in closed beta.
Your friend is your enemy, who is your enemy's friend, you can target your group memebers for heals, and for attack, so if you are in the process of attacking something and switch to a group member to heal them, you will attack them also if you are not careful.
This has never changed in there pvp design.
Hopefully they will have it fixed by the time they roll it live.
With every major patch, they consistantly have Good = Bad in weight, so if they do a ton of Good items to the game that make us happy, they will of course have to do an equal amount of Bad things to the game, which will undoubtedly make people mad.
Either way, its supposed to be a living world, so we take it in strides, complain, cheer, grumble, sneer, but move forward and try new concepts.
As it stands, those who were lucky enough to power level before patch 1 and get over level 200, will be the only people in this game for a long while, that will be able to loot the kills of the 3 new bosses, understand that now, get over it ahead of time, and know that if you help to kill it, your not getting anything, if you do, your just extremely lucky.
We have all already learned from the ingame events, that the items that were gathered during the events, were outweighed by a few factors.
1) the groups that had the highest level players got the most items.
2) the casters who were not busy defending the group or healing the tanks while the tanks were keeping the creatures at bay, looted the most in those groups.
Its a no brainer, and this is common in all mmo's.
With the advent of the 3 new boss mobs and there children, what ever those might be, the devs have opened up spawn camping to this game of pure crafters.
We all know what this will mean, the l33t people will find a method of constantly killing the boss mobs, keep getting the l33t drops, and it will be months before the rest of the people can join them.
Its just common fact.
This will be true for the PR zone also, only the most powerful people will be able to stay in the zone safely, gain the mats, and do what they desire.
I just bring this up here, so that anyone who has never played in a MMO with boss mobs with l33t gear, learn ahead of time what will happen, this is undeniable.

Unfortunately, this phenomenon is also one of the reasons I left UO for Ryzom. I for some reason thought Ryzom would break out of the MMORPG mold and make us a different game, one with a health player economy, a dynamic world, and one that offered a playable, fun game for both casual and hardcore players.
And, because I wanted to support them in their effort to do so, I paid for a full year of this game.
Re: pvp ideas, issues, concerns, questions (Merged Thread)
Ok, time for everyone to cool down a bit on PvP, I played on the ATS for 4 hours tonight (Thoron is my name in ATS)
Here is what observations I have made for those who desire not to partake on PvP.
There are ALOT of pvp area's going to be implamented in the game, however, don't fret, rather don't even care about it if you don't want to.
You get a warning stating you are entering them, 30 second warning, at the end of this 30 seconds you have a box pop up, warning giving you 3 options.
1) Neutral
2) Kami
3) Karavan
I have requested that this also be put into the Game Configuration menu (like display options etc) where you can choose your default setting for PvP.
I can't guarantee they will do this, but, as a person who loves to harvest and craft, I always choose Neutral when asked.
You DON"T HAVE TO PVP, no they are not forcing it on you as originally suspected.
On to pack mules, there are 4 different levels on ATS at the moment for the packers, although it denotes there defensive abilities and HP, currently they do no damage and seem to move slower than the current packers on live servers, I put in a word on this also and hope to see a little tweaking before this also goes live.
Those who are looking forward to patch 2, also be prepared for another possible stanza reset, there are new skills for ranged weapons available, there is no telling how there going to handle these skills going forward, that or I never saw them prior to the patch, they did a PWhipe on ATS, so that is why I noticed it.
So all this bickering about PvP can now stop

Now that PvP is 100% in January, I will put in my two cents a bit more... I for one am not a fan of RPKing. If this occurs (and I know it will) I petition a few guilds for help in making sure these RPKers do not have a nice time in Ryzom.
In response to the ignorant players out there:
I have more heart than anyone would know I will let you in on a little secret... I am doing this for my newborn daughter... no one else... I like that game, but I do not have the time anymore. My first priority is to my daughter. End of story.

You totally missed the point XComvic, you can choose to participate or not, by selecting Neutral.
Unless I totally missed something in the PvP system.

oh... that sucks then... if you want to forage in PR, you can select not to PvP (neutral), but if your friends are in trouble you can help them( by selecting Kami or Karavan later) ? and then select neutral right after battle? your right, I do not get that at all... or, I am just missing the point again... that means there is no consequence at all for foraging by yourself in enemy lands...
