patch crash with ATI

Post by rgibbons »

After a patch, when I get to the relaunch screen and click on 'relaunch' I get taken to a seemingly infinite window repeating '<path>\client_ryzom_rd.exe Access is denied'. I have let it go for hours and it has never stopped. With my Nvidia card I can just alt-tab out of it and it goes away. With my Radeon card it crashes my computer (self-reboot) just about instantly. Any one else seen this or know of a solution? should I have to switch to D3D to patch? Thanks,

Laura - Tryker Warrior/Mage

PS: I play using my Nvidia (64Mb) card just fine, but I bought a Radeon (128Mb) card specifically for this game, and it irritates me that it is sitting on the shelf.

Myself and I think most other ATI users out there have settled on D3D for some time.

I just disable Vertex Shaders and Pixel Shaders, as I've been told these things are not enabled on ATI cards. I know some ATI users who haven't disabled them, though.

Even at fairly high detail and resolution, with my radeon 8500LE(128mb), I only have load times (not the kind with the intro page, the "please wait" kind) when shifting into new areas, and even then, only crowded ones.

Speak for yourself zarzen. Many of us using ATI cards (mine is a 128 Mb Radeon 9000 Pro) cannot run the game usind D3D. Open GL is our only option to keep from constant crashes. Nevrax has made a deal with Nvidia and has little or no interest in fixing the game to run with ATI cards.

You should also speak for yourself Navra. I have a Radeon 9200 Pro 128MB and I run mine in D3D and have way less problems than when I was running in OpenGL. Admittedly, when the game first came out, I could only run in the OpenGL, and I don't know what they have done exactly to fix this, but one day I decided to try it again and voila. I have rarely have lag (and even when I do it's very little) and I no longer have to re-enlarge my window and move my boxes around anymore. So in the beginning, the NVidia deal might of been a valid issue, but I think no longer. I think Nevrax is smart enough to realize how important it is to include both G-Force and Radeon with as many of both users are out there. Oh and as a side note, I don't crash that often either. I can usually play for anywhere from 5 to 8 hours with maybe one crash.

I tried OpenGL at first as well, at the commercial launch, and it was far less stable, even at lower detail levels. In fact, usually I crashed about 5 seconds past the loadscreen going away.

It's important to bear in mind just what ATI cards we're talking about, I think. Then there's the matter of drivers. Other than that, it's useless to tell me you have your finger on the pulse of the ATI user community more than I do, I mean, who cares.

Telling him to try harder with OpenGL would have been well, a little dumb. So I suggested he try D3D, which obviously works best some of the time.

I have a radeon 9000 128Mb. Sorry I didn't put that in earlier but it came sans-box. I bought it 'el cheap-a-reeno' so I got nothing but the card in, if I remeber correctly, a modem box. At any rate, I have the latest drivers from ATI website, as well as directx9c. I usually only play for 60-90 minutes at a time, and I can play with D3D or OpenGL for that period of time. The crashes happen when I patch. It may be completely unrelated to SoR and be in my OS or something. I just wondered if anyone else got the endless errors after patching, which I also get with my Ge-Force 440 MX 64mb. The endless errors crash my PC when the radeon is in, but not with the Nvidia. Thanks for the replies though.
