the guides/gm do actually have to lvl i saw one in pr foraging and comented to them about it they said they have to earn skills same as we do

why this is i dont know to me they should have max in all skills then when confronted with a bug they will be able to test this and pass there comments on to the devs makes sense heh

Perhaps the powers that be want the GM's to play while they're "GM'ing" so that they can comment on gameplay issues, find bugs, etc. I'm not saying that I necessarily agree with this, but it may be part of the reasoning.

I was an apprentice guide on EQ for a while, fun job, most of my time was spent doing quests with the players (rather running them) since we had to setup a few a month and get the approved.

Only reason we could help get someone rezzed if it was do to a real BUG in the game.

I agree the GM's need more power in this game.

MYTH: GMs have to level their characters like everyone else.
BUSTED: GMs do not have to level like everyone else. We have characters of different levels to help in different issues. A GM of equal level can do what you can do, and more. I know this, because I am the one that buffs them.

You will see GMs harvesting, crafting or even killing mobs at times. This would be to test different aspects or issues in the game. They do not play the game with their GM characters.

MYTH: GMs "can't" do anything.
BUSTED: GMs can do a lot of things, but not everything. There are times a GM can't do something based on policy, for instance a GM cannot heal you just because he happened to be there when you died. However, there was an issue in the past where players were not getting spawn points even when we tried to teleport them to the closest town or city, therefore we would heal them for a couple hit points so they could heal themselves and move to a spawn area. If you are attacked and killed while a GM is standing there handling a petition from you, they cannot heal you. GMs are not players while they are in the game as GMs.

MYTH: They can do it in <insert game here>, so I they can do it in <insert game here>.
BUSTED: Absolutely false. All games are coded differently. There are many different tools in the different MMO games. Some are much easier to use than others, but they all have their different way to do it. Currently, what you see in EQ, AO, DAoC, etc may not be what you see in Ryzom or what can be done in Ryzom at the moment. The GMs do their best to help with what they have available.

i had one of them standing right next to me, standard tryker char with high-q armour and that big-ass pink stick telling me his def aff wasn't high enough, make of that what you want ...

Busted: Everything they tell me makes me laugh

Myth: GM's never believe what anyone says.
Busted: They believe everything people tell them, they just can't believe that people would tell them some of the things they hear.

Myth: GM's use there uber staffs for evil purposes.
Busted: They only use them to rotisory herbivores, the carnivore meat is to tough.

Myth: GM's are slow at responding to petitions.
Busted: Every petition is answered in order, and under 10 minutes, can't beat that on any game.

Myth: GM's are robots.
Busted: There actually from Pluto.
