That is what I meant. If you wait until your actually suppose to be in the roots, you won't be pulling level 50 mats for long at all.xcomvic wrote:think he meant from 50 to 51, where you lvl ALL skills to 51... I think...

Let me see if I can decipher your post.
I also still don't see an answer to how the game is unbalanced. Next?
Agreed. One of the few changes in patch 1 that made total sense was to eliminate the ability to harvest 3k exp sources ad infinitum. But how does stopping the ability of those few who can actually get down to PR - who generally had to max out DP to get there - that harvest slowly at 1.4-1.6k per pull, with real risk of dying with explosions running 1.2k at q80 source levels - help this? Its not as if we have lvl 200 PR harvesters running around unless they got there prior to patch...plarfman wrote:When the game was first released do to several advantages in the game it was very possible to acheive High Lvls very very quickly and as stands Lvls go by rather quickly if you know what you are doing.
No, that's not my argument. My argument is that crafters got completely hosed by patch 1, with no fix in sight, and harvesting is the only realistic way to gain crafting materials to advance currently. (Read my other posts on the subject). I play a balanced character, but I also think that you shouldn't have to play a balanced character to be a crafter or harvester. Players should be free to play their characters as they choose - not as you or others define them. This doesn't help.Your argument is that there are to many Mobs in the PR and that You and others as Harvester cant just waltz in there to get what you need.
I also still don't see an answer to how the game is unbalanced. Next?
The only real skill you pick up at higher level harvesting that helps is the ability to do PR specialization at 150. That means that you can advance slightly quicker from level 51 on, with 1.5k exp pulls of q60 mats rather than 1.4k. So I guess you're referring to the fact that according to you I must play a level 200 fighter to be qualified to harvest in PR. I refer to the above comment about playing my toon as I choose, and not how you choose.raynes wrote:Well if you waited to go into the roots when you were actually suppose to, your PR level would be at 200 or 250. Why? Because at certain points all types of harvesting skills jump, no matter if you have trained in them or not.
Re: People should really get used to this...
By trade I am a crafter / harvestor, and I do harvesting to feed my crafting UNLESS the market has the mats I need at a price I will pay, then I will buy them from the market and not bother with harvesting.
Tuesday night was a prime example, I had already spent 5 hours of game time harvesting materials between sunday and monday night, so on tuesday I sepent 1 hour finishing up filling my packmule, then I crafted for 3 hours straight.
I gained tons of levels in alot of categories, few hundred points to spend, etc, when I ran out of materials I went to the materials merchants and low and behold, all the materials that I desired to finish off the night were there at a reasonable price.
It is possible to get what you desire from the merchants provided that there are other harvestors feeding the merchants, then us crafters feed those harvestors by buying the materials, back to supply and demand.

Re: People should really get used to this...
Just for info...
I am a lvl 68 PR harvest (lvl 130 lake).
I don't max my DP to get in the I use teleport tickets. I use Max DP to get somewhere new... if required and the guild are too busy to fight me there.
I get 1.8k from pulls using a good extraction set-up.
When I havervest with Mel, a harvester with PR terrain spec. we can team and extract 11xql100 materials, I care, she digs we get a combined XP (My XP + her XP) of around 2.5k-2.8k.
You don't need to harvest to be a crafter .... you need a friend who is a harvester. Being a Harvest/crafter just makes crafting easier and allows you to get mats faster.
As for advancement speed I level faster in the roots than I do in the lakes....
XP requirement from say 68 to 69 is less than 130 to 131 and I gain more XP because I can exctract higher QL mats in relation to my level.

Re: People should really get used to this...
OK, here is my assessment of what gets everyone upset. Upon restarting of the server either due to a failure, or through a patch mobs do not come back as they were just before the server went down. The problem here is the population did not grow over time as you would expect from the observations that everyone has made about Atys.xcomvic wrote:i like changes, makes the game more FRESH, more likely for me to come back the next day... I like the changes in season, day/night, mobs placement and mats. Also this would be a good thing for mat campers when PvP comes out and other things...
The game is dynamic, is supposed to be dynamic, etc. That is why we are all playing it, so here is my solution that would make everyone happy. I don't expect that anyone in-game is thinking that year after in-game year things will be the same. So if a mob reallignment is due, put it in place, but have the mobs migrate, and/or start as a small population and grow from there. Having 100 mobs pop up after a 2 hour patch is unrealistic, but having a population grow over days is realistic.
Another option, is to tie drastic changes to the story line. Would you have been anywhere near as upset if you logged in, and the greeters in your cities are screaming their heads off about hordes of carnivores attacking innocent homins and needing your help to get it under control? It's your own fault, if you are in the field when you log off, and you pop up into a horde of aggro cuttlers. In this case your contacts in the community should be keeping you aware, I.e. you log on and your guild fills you in on recent changes in the envoronment. Heck this could happen to you if you were off for a few days and the season changed, or the population was not kept in check by something else. Or if a pack is pulled into your area by hunting carnivores.
In addition, there must be dynamic condidtions here. If all of the sudden the mobs have an advantage and are eating homins left and right in an area, you would expect that the popultaion would continue to grow until someone decides to control it. As the homin population of Atys grow as well, there must also be some dynamic control that would allow the mob populations to adjust.
It is possible, and I have seen it happen even at my low level, that I can run right through an area that I expect packs and packs of doggies and find nary a single one as the hunters have recently been through and wiped them out temporarily.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What you really want is not to have suprises. HA That probably is not going to happen, you don't understand the world yet. You "think" you do, but you can only really understand what you have experienced up until now. What you really are looking for is changes tied into the story line. (ex. My ranged crafting is useless right now, but instead of just fixing it, why don't they make a 2sp skill that is the fix, so someone who uses this new skill in crafting range weapons gets the benefits implemented) Or tie it to story line without a skill, or make it a rite.
That's my .02!
P.S. If you think you can forage without ever having a support staff to protect you, good luck. Community makes the world go round, not loaners. If you want to sit in the corner and do your thing, craft from the safety of the big city and have someone deliver the mats you need to you. Then you once again are part of the community / economy. It would be impossible to be your own loaner micro-economy.
Re: People should really get used to this...
Simple solutions to simple problems:
Problem:When I login, sometimes I am immediately attacked, what can I do to avoid this?
Solution:Get to a town before you log out of the game, either through teleport ticket, or just plain travel, log off where you are guaranteed safety.
Problem:Trying to get to my harvest locations, I get nailed by carnivores and can't get there alive, so all I get is no fun and lots of DP.
Solution:Escorts, this game has tons of people willing to escort you around if you just ask.
Problem:I don't know how to create bricks that do what I need them to do.
Solution:RTFM and ask questions, don't log into the game thinking this is Diablo, understand that this game requires some common sense and intelligence.
Problem:I don't have spawn points in all of the player cities, how do I get them?
Solution:Currently, guilds put together escort caravans to help people get from place to place, gaining these spawn points, learn when these events occur and tag along.
Problem:I am level 10 and just game from the newbie land, why is a low level creature kicking my but?
Solution:You left newbie land to soon, can't go back, so just find people to group with and figure out the best way to gain some experience.
Problem:My uber mat locations now have creatures twice my level, why can't they leave me alone?
Solution:Game dynamics demand change, learn to compromise, find new resource locations, or get an escort that can defeat the threat.
Problem:My packer keeps getting killed if I take him into the wild, how can I avoid this?
Solution:Leave him in a stable, or get an escort to guard your packer.
Just a few P/S items...
I could go on, just don't have the time at this moment.
Re: People should really get used to this...
Sorry it took so long to get back to you Raynes, but gaming and work got in the way. In response to your post, yes I am in fact a harvester that is 200+, but that has nothing to do with my ability to be or not be in roots. The whole point of mine and other posts about Patch 27 was that this wasn't evolution it was a dramatic seesawing of the game targeted at a select few individuals. The outcry from mages and fighters would be the same if suddendly all the areas they could hunt for exp were suddenly overrun by so much aggro they couldn't hunt there at all.raynes wrote:Are you level 200-250? If yes, then I apoligize and you have a right to complain. If your not (as I suspect) you shouldn't even be in the roots at all. I can assure you that there are many people who will buy equipment that isn't made of the top stuff. I know for a fact you could make a killing on light armor that gives a focus bonus.
Like I said before, I don't mind evolution but this isn't evolution, this is more like an astroid hitting Atys in an attempt to make a Prime harvester an extinct species.
This statement isn't true. Most if not all harvesters are solitary individuals roaming far and wide in search of the materials needed for the guild. Being a part of the community is more then being around everyone constantly. There are various channels that we can keep in contact with others so its not like the harverster is isolated, never interacting with individuals.marct wrote:P.S. Re: People should really get used to this...
Sorry Thanakar you are right, the game seesawed against you and you are the few. You loose. Hate to say it but we can't all have our cake. Of course with what I'm about to write I'll point out what you didn't think about. So in essence, your continued ranting only discourages new players and harvesters. It makes you more valuable but hurts the game. So please stop yapping about all the negatives...Here's the upshot:
When you get a group to protect you, you will be the only one with PR Q200+ mats. You will make a fortune.
I found up to Q250 excellent big shell in a safe area in Zorai today. I got 20 before it rained and it only shows when it's light out. Only in certain seasons. After running around for hours and hours with Gondi and Goulong just to find decent Mortega wood and racking DP, I realized what a golden source I had found with that big shell. I've gone back several times and been unsuccesful. This makes those 20 shells all the more valuable.
It also means that all those pointless grinds you do will actually be sold on market. No not all of them most likely, but a good portion more, Especially when the price for white and black armors or just high Q weapons triples. In essence, you can still do the same ole EXACT harvest actions just in a different place. Once you get to the places where it's harder, it's not only worth more money, the fellows around you will be providing plenty of action.
Second subject: Solo vs Grouped
Since basic mats are worth something, people can still make a living. Oh and answer me this, who solos KincherKya? Who at level 120 solos Rakya? and why would they for Q70 supremes? So the arguement of solo is moot because your argument means that only solo harvesters can be powerful. Essentially that's a limitation on soloers and since I doubt you want them to erase event mobs, or boss mobs, your argument simply holds no weight.
You're bright though, and passionate. I'm sure if anyone can find a way to come out of this with tons of profit Thanakar, you will. So stop discouraging the little guys still plent hard for me to solo harvest haven at 120 jungle. Pr should laugh at me and make me pee my pants.
Re: People should really get used to this...
Like I said... the ONLY thing that's a shame about this is that we've already seen all the high level areas that were intended to be very difficult for even 200-250s. If the PR hadn't been a free ride in the first place, this would all make sense.
Try to get around this human fallacy and realize what I'm saying. View the PR as something exceedingly difficult, where you can't just go in and harvest what you please. Unless you don't want to enjoy the game -- if that's the case, continue to wallow in the past.
And once again, to new players, the game will be as it was intended. New players won't be hurt by this in the least.
Re: People should really get used to this...
Well put indeed. Consider it like this, the Kitin patrols saw that little enemy homins were wandering around their territory and beefed the defenses. As for the other animals, since kitin are semi-intelligent, they herded in other animals or let them breed and expand. Cutes are evil little buggers and they did exist in in the trench of trials, maybe they made a pact, or just expanded. (though maybe it wasn't kitin, it was the karavan or kami! who's evil? I like Kami steak)
Another view is that the lack of homins actually hunting to keep mob population down let the mobs in general expand. This is just for RP value of course...
