I got in, the game patched and everything, it says the server is online, I try to log in, and it says "The shard is not available".... what does that mean? Sorry for my n00bishness. It happens right after I click "accept" for the liscense agreement.

Welcome ... today there is a small patch going on to the server, however Nervax have used this opertunity to upgade the hardware on the servers, to provide an even better service to the community.

I would suggest downloading Klients from main site http://www.ryzom.com

You will be able to chat to the CSR and other players while you wait. Its a great chance to find out more about the game and get some hints and tips.

The server is online to allow patching and the CSR to test the patch, when the Shard is open you will be able to play.

Thank you! Hope they'll be back up soon, judging from the features on the main page it looks pretty cool. Although I've heard people say there's no content at all, and I've heard others say the game is so extremely free and open ended that most people can't even find the content. Heh. So, is this really the "Next generation MMORPG?"


I've played many MMORPG's, from Ultima Online to Everquest 2. I guess I'm a bit burned out on the whole Everquest 1-ish play, I hope its different int his game, and killing mobs in groups is actually fun and requires tactics (like FFXI).


Other then that, its probably either Roma Victor, Pirates of the Burning Sea, or world of warcraft for me, if Ryzom is a let down.

Oh! One more thing! I heard the game has realistic drops, like, wolves dont drop "Uber Chestplate by Amakk teh Master Uber Chestplatemak0r", but it it still possible to get rich and get almost unique items because they're so rare? The reason I loved diablo II (Don't worry, that was almost 3.5 years ago, I grew out of my Battle.net ishness) was basically because I love gathering rare items and trading etc.

You only get mob mats from animals yes, they arnt ULTIMATE SWORD OF DOOM! dropped by a scary gingo, but things like gingo claws or bones.

They can be made to craft your own items, but if you want the really sweet stuff its time to get out your pick and go harvesting

yes there is realistic drops though you wont get no wolves or bears here named kitins will drop rare materials also, when you get in game i would seach for a good group of folk to hunt with etc im sure theres plenty of guilds out there who would take on a 14 day free trial, If you are not a narrow minded person and read as much botu ryzom and talk to people ingame and get a feel for the big picture and plans of ryzom you will certainly enjoy this game and will look forward to future. Your also at a good time at the moment where there is lots of goo infected kitin movements and a few invasion's etc its all been fun and a good laff specially the massacre at the nexus lol

I heard there are no quests in! And no content at all!


Oh well, I dislike quests anyway, heh.


However, do players actually get to shape their server aswell? For example, can players take on positions of power like being a mayor, or a high ranked officer, or leader of an outpost or something?


That's something I'd love to see in an MMORPG, something all the EQ-esque MMORPGs lacked.
