Ariwen, I understand your frustration. Patch 1 harvesting changes really didn't help newbies much, and when you are on a ghost town of an island it doesn't help more. I found when I played my old Zorai character that harvesting on newbie island was only easy because I was in the middle of the preorder rush, and there were a number of harvester types looking for mats and willing to share mat spots. Without that, its tough.
i ran around zorai newbee island with 50m deposit tracking and clicking all the time until i found what i wanted, it took time, but i got what i wanted and i learned how to visual see where the sources are. and isent that what it should be about? learning...

What you are missing is that you will be able to find and harvest all types of mats on the mainland. If there is a resource you can't find in the ground, and you just want to experiment with 2hd weapons plans, you will be able to find plentiful samples of that mat on vendors. Most areas of Cities of Intuition are free of agro and safe for young harvesters, and there are reasonably safe areas in adjoining zones where you can get up to 200ql mats. On the mainland people can show you spots to harvest, but since they can't come back to the isle you will only get vague hints from experienced harvesters if you stay where you are.

There is no point in harvesting on the isle past level 20 due to the level 20 cap on mats. At that point you can harvest q30 mats on the mainland for 50% more experience. At skill 30 you will make twice the experience in the same time on the mainland.

If you just want to solve the puzzle of finding every type of mat on the isle, then you are welcome to stay. You should keep in mind that mats come and go based on the seasons, weather, Jena's mood, and the angle of the rings on that big ball in the sky. Do you want to stick around to check and recheck every inch of the isle in every season and every weather condition? If you miss a spot during one season are you willing to wait a year to recheck when that season rolls around again?

Join us on the mainland Ariwen, where men are men, women are women, everyone is blue and wears a mask, and the ragus have big sharp teeth. You won't regret it.
