ATI radeon 9100 problems

Post by usagiyo »

There are certain areas when I zone into, my display freezes and VCU (the video recover program from ATI) kicks in.

The biggest culprit is the directly south from the forest city in the right hand corner of the map. Sorry, don't know the town names yet. But there is a space ship there. I think it's the launch pad to the big world.

My drivers are the latest catalyst, windows XP SP2 1G memory 128G video memory. I've backed all the setting down and the problem still persists. I can log alts in, when they hit that zone or area, pop, same thing.

Switch to OpenGL, it's the only solution I can think of. So, join the merry club of low-end (well, 9600-) Radeon users. Your problems are indentical to mine and I have 9200, for the record.

Latest drivers won't remedy a thing, OGL is the way to go, but it has its own problems.. It's somewhat stable though.

yup, sounds like the same problem. How do I set to GL only? I've seen he menu and ran the setup ... doesn't seem to have the option GL only. Only has setting for both GL and DX.

oops, nevermind, I got it. It was not clear that that was a menu. Usualy things with + in front have options, not headers.

After reading some of the other problems, I can't believe the flack people take for using video cards 18 months old.

Tell me about it, and imagine that people with 9600 XT cards suffer from it too, so it's not just our predicament. And yes, Ryzom is the only game so far that has rejected my card almost totally (and the funniest thing is that at the same time Ryzom is the game I value most atm).

Nifty way to plug Nvidia, eh? ;)

I was having alot of problems with my ingame graphics as well. I have the 9700Pro ATI and had to run the game with both my card's inherant options set at lowest and the ingame options set at low.

My system totally crashed and I had to do a full reinstall of OS and the works.

I did not install any older Catalyst drivers before downloading and installing the newest.

Now, everything ingame is hunky dorry!! I run my card's inherant options at "ballanced" because I actually have a rather low end system (P4 1.7, 512 ram, 4xAGP) and that gives me good quality and decent framerate..BUT!! I have all ingame graphic settings on high and the world looks sooo purty :)

So, in short, either I got real lucky on something or the problem is somewhere in y'alls systems and or a bad driver install.

PS Played approx 6 hours so far and not a single graphics glitch, hangup or crash. Only problem is the spasdic lag issue which will most likely be solved or at least greatly reduced when geographically closer servers are made available.

I'm more than happy if someone gives hints and their own experiences about the issue, but it really isn't about choppy graphics or whatnot. It's about total system freeze. I've been experiencing these issues with my R9200 since last May and since then I've managed to reinstall my OS for about three times, if not even more. (yeah, I like keeping things fresh ;) )

What I haven't tried is much older drivers or third party ones. But bad driver install or my system being haywired isn't the issue here, that I can guarantee. But granted, any info I hear about this issue is much appreciated anyways.

Hello,
You can switch to OpenGL by running the Ryzom configuration tool (the "Configure The Saga of Ryzom" shortcut on your desktop), going into the Display options, and selecting OpenGL.

Thank you, but this has been covered in this thread already.

OpenGL is stable, when you compare it to D3D, but it has its own problems, at least in this end. I get sluggy performance and some areas are completely unplayable, unlike under D3D. That's my main concern, as I want to play under D3D because it's just so smooth, at least when compared to. (then again, I'm happy that I can even play, some can't even do that)

Be that as it may, I'm starting to really rearrange my budget because of this. Sure, it's always good to upgrade your vid card, but it seems more like that I'm forced to (in a sense, I could always just bite my tongue and ignore the game. Can't).

Yeah, it's not the best fix in the world. It's actually more of a workaround. I know the devs are working to make both OpenGL and Direct3D as efficient and bug free as possible, and changes are constantly going into internal testing, so it's only a matter of time before things start looking up.
