Zzeii problably used a wedge formation. healer in front, three harvesters on either flank and two tanks in the rear. That's how I woulda done it. Sound tactics sound tactice. Gfunk problably didn't have any harvesters making up the body of his groups.

My biggest experience in mass combat came from my experience in DaoC. Relic Raids where hundreds of people would fight it out, and other types of PvE and PvP raids.

Gfunk and Zzei both did a very good job at trying to lead their raids. The Kami vs Karavan event is by far a more difficult thing to organize. You have a changing and unknown set of circumstances that face everyone. Most raids in other games, and the Matis to Zorai event, involve known obstacles. These are pre plannned out far in advance. Our relic raids were planned out and people could be given various tasks in advance.
A live event invovles a much different set of skills. A scouting party is important, and that on Friday wasn't very well organized. It also requires a leader who can think on his feet and get a plan up and going in a short time. The clock was ticking.

A raid leader has to be pretty hard hearted. People lagging around in the back, either to technical issues, or their own inabilities, need to be left to their own devices. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Too many times now I have seen group wipes because the people in the back caused large parts of the army to swell backwards and then the front got attacked. The long line of people, needs to be dealt with in some fashion so that the majority can get the job done.

While the majority of the player base is still of fairly low level, the options available in these raids will be few.
