I am getting very tired of this, the last 5 days the game has crashed every 30 minutes or so, and a third of the time I get a BSOD on top of it.
My drivers is up to date, and my computer more then meet the requirements.
Windows XP, SP2.
2Ghz P4 @ 2666 (And yes it is running stable, and has for 1-2 years now).
1 GB ram
SB Audigy (Not that it should matter as I turned of the sound to see if it helped against the crashes.)
Geforce 4, Ti4200
The game keeps accessing restricted memory, at random intervals, it caused me to die about 5 times so far, cost me dusins of waypoints, because they are not saved during gameplay. And generally pissing me of, having to reboot the computer constantly.
Anyone who got a clue on what might cause it. As I can see from the crash logs, it is totally random the causes of the crashes. No pattern, nothing, except the game engine for some reason does not appear able to keep within its alloted memory. This is really getting to me.
It was not so, at the start of the free beta, but started at the end of it, I stupid as I was, thought it was temporary, instead I feel suckered to cough over 25 Euro for something I cannot use.
What the hell am I doing wrong?
Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
Re: Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
I also had problem with random crashes like you but not as often, more like 1 crash in 2 hours or something, but of some reason the game stopped crashing a week ago.
This is just a guess, but maybe you got some other app running that steal Ryzom's memory blocks?! So try to close unnecessary applications.
Im not a computer genius but maybe it worth to try?!

Hmm... have you tried messing with the advanced gfx options in Ryzom_Configuration?
It might be worth a try too... usually helps if the crashes is gfx related (i know you said they arnt the reason, but it might be related) =)
Also it _can_ be because your RAM sticks are not the same, ey? different producent, speed/size?

I have messed with the advanced settings, and tried turning all off without any help, as well as trying both OpenGL (Dislike it, as the game does not start in fullscreen mode, and I need to flick the resolution to get it, and then reset the windows positions afterward at each login, and it crash at about same frequency) and Direct3d
As for the Ram, yes they are different types, but in no other games I have played have I had simulair problems. (Games include Doom3, WoW Beta, Guild Wars, DAoC, Battlefront StarWars (Or however its spelled).) to mention just a few of the more requiring 3d games I have tried lately.
I have tried 3 different gfx drivers, I tried turning of the sound in game. Basicly I feel I tried everything, and the only solution I have found to make the game stop crashing, is to not run it, which is kinda annoying after having just bought it. As I love the games crafting/foraging system. But I do hate crashing every 30 minutes or so, and have my computer get a BSOD every 1-2 hours.
Re: Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
Last thing i can come up with is to ask for tech support in Klients...
Clicky: http://www.ryzom.com/data/Klient/chat.players.uk.zip
unzip, run. (Important!)remove the V from autoconnect before connecting. Enter user/pass from the Ryzom Client, tada! =)
(A bit extra help on Klients, if you get errors (it a big buggy atm): http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6854 )

Re: Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
used to have a lot of problems with Ryzom 'hanging'.. freezing up, and literally 30sec later it would start moving again. I imagine that this could quite easily have crashed too, so is very possibly the same sort of thing that makes you crash.
What I do, with advice from soul snatcher, is as such:
1) If using WindowsXP, load up the login screen for Ryzom
2) Right click in the task bar at the bottom and open Task Manager
3) Go to Processes tab
4) Find client_ryzom_rd.exe and click once
5) Right click on it and choose Set Priority -> High
6) Choose Yes to confirm
Then I log into Ryzom as normal.
Since I have been doing that, I get little to no lag at all, gfx or "connection", and I very rarely crash unless I go for a swim in Tryker.
That's just my experience, maybe try doing it for yourself. Of course, there's always someone who will say doing this will enrage Satan or whatever.
Give it a go.
Peace

Re: Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
High prio, nice one!
Gonna try that when I can boot the game. (gfx card is toasted)

Try sending tech support tickets ingame from the 'game bar > support'. Theres always some jolt employees ready to help...
