The Fun of armor..
The Fun of armor..
I looked though the book and a little online and i still can't find anything on this. Does the type of armor your wearing effect combat in anyway? Do you parry and dodge less with heavy then with light? Do you attack slower, etc. I know if effects crafting and casting spells, but if it doesn't fact effect any combat skills in anyway what would be the point of haveing heavy armor? I was thinking of trying to be a dagger or hand to hand fighter, and wanted to know if the type of armor would effect me in some way. It just seemed odd to be a hand to hand fight and it being ok to wear heavy armor. Does anyone know anything about this? Is med armor really just for looks, becuse i think it looks alot better then heavy.
Re: The Fun of armor..
So far I have enjoyed wearing light and medium, I didn't notice any serious slow downs in movement, running or combat.
But then I do tend to go for daggers and leather armor over the full metal suits and HUGE slow ungangly swords and hammers the size of a small car, no matter the game I play. My theory, and so far it works, is if I swing 40 times and miss four...no big deal, If I swing 10 times and miss four, Dirt nap.
Plus...in dual wielding, your off hand MUST be a dagger and on hand must be one handed weapon. I enjoy the two dagger up close and personal fighting style.
I did try the full heavy armor in beta during the crash test, the magic casting penalty was HUGE to put it mildly. I just don't see a full heavy armor seriously casting more than one or two spells, you just don't have the sap for it.
And I did see more than a fair share of naked crafters *rolls eyes* I craft in light armor and see NO difference in successes from naked.

Yes, it´s right, Light Armor has no penalty whatsoever. Like caster armor.
But the heavier the armor gets, the more penalty you got to endure. Medium +10, Heavy +20.
You can see the penalty in the Info window of the armor piece.
Ah, what am i talking, see for yourself: http://ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t ... on+penalty
Ok, it´s not that informative, but i can only repeat what they say.
Try it this way: Open any action brick in your Action-Bar that uses Focus with hitting Edit. At the bottom of that new window you will see the amount of Focus that this action uses. When you now switch from medium or heavy armor to nude armor you will see, that the amount rises when you put armor on and falls when you pull blank. And watch how the amount varies. So it´s allways better to have a suit of light or caster armor around when harvest and craft, than doing it in medium and heavy armor! Or just do it plain naked.
BUT DO melee fight in medium or heavy armor! It will give you some penalty on weapon speed though, but that´s life...
Hope i could help!
