I left the island when my melee macer was routinely killing kipees without any problem (around L21). That was the yardstick I used to decide when I was ready to leave - no more challenge.

Plus all my crafting skills needed better mats ;)

I used the same criteria, but for my char it was level 25 or so before I could chain the weeny kipees with no trouble. At first this was difficult with magic but then I was offered a q20 magic focus that immediately became my best friend :) .

I stayed to round my levels to 30 before going to mainland. I only spent 30 minutes or so exploring it so far, but there are a _lot_ of monsters around that I can 2-shot kill. It was actualy a bit frustrating to see monsters easier than there were in the newbie lands.

I would say that 25 in a combat skill is more than enough to make the move. There are plenty of easy monsters to hunt.

I agree with Tash on this one, the others have their point. To boil it down, If you don't group and were NOT a beta for more than two weeks (this pretty much includes me, I was in open beta for about ten days, so..I am still a newb in my own eyes), then you need to stick around the newbie area a while longer.

At least on Tykerlands adventure ONLY players could find quite a bit to do, and harvester/crafters have their hands full until AFTER 30 at least. I got to 39 harvester before last day of open beta, and I was FAR from bored, in fact I still haven't learned all I want to of Harvesting and Crafting classes.

And since you can't UNdo the trip to mainlands...it would be wise to KNOW you mean that trip. And having a friend or two(or more) that are going to make the trip around the same time wouldn't hurt either.

If you are TOTALLY efficent, know your stuff and can't stand another *insert mob name here* or *insert material name here* then it might be time to head out and explore.

All depends on what you intend on hunting on the mainland. If you're in a team and going to hunt things solely in pts, you could go earlier.

If you are going melee solo, and want to fight things that give you good mats to sell, then I wouldn't wait til i was a)at least 20-25 and b)had good gear (ideally no store bought mats to make).

Me? I tend to follow the 'go big early or stay home' motto. Didn't leave til I had a fulls set of q20 choice HA armor, 1h+2h weaps, and a couple peices of jewelry all with +hp. Left with melee fight at 41 and ranged at 33.

Reason it took so long, well there aren't many people who can craft a full set of HA armor with +10hp per peice and willing to go around and get the mats for it. I paid them well for their time so i spent alot of time farming cloppers.

Now I get to the mainland, (tryker mind you). And I'm soloing hard kipee, scowling cloppers, prime ybers, and sprightly messabs with minimal if any downtime. Quite alot more enjoyable than the first time i got there in beta =)

My long winded point. If you played in beta and know what to expect, then go when you feel ready. If you haven't, and think you are ready, train up a little more, make sure you have good gear. Then go.

Like someone said. You can go to the mainland easily enough. But you can never come back.

I've made the trip to the mainland once, but made one fatal mistake. I wasnt comfortable with all my skills, even tho melee was 30 ish, armor craft 50 and 20 magic, I was a complete idiot when it came to harvesting, and let me tell you, mainland isnt the best place to try to learn a skill. Anyway, my point is, make sure you are comfortable with ALL your skills while its easy and safe. It can save you from alot of frustration down the road.
