First off, apologies for dragging the topic to EQ2 again, and Lawrence please feel free to close/delete this if you feel it's a violation of forum policy.

Anyway, after all the hype I took a few minutes to cruise some EQ2 boards on mmorpg.com today and below is a selection of some of the negative comments that have been posted. Some are thread titles, some are from posts.

First some thread titles...

"Game has a serious problem"

"Performance help"

"Am I the only one to hate the 'Find NPC Quest' system in EQ2?"

"ATI 9600xt - lockups/freezing frequently"

"Computer help please!"

And some posts (copied/pasted so don't blame me for poor spelling and grammar)...

"Will give it more time, but I feel very restricted (and even forced) in my choices with this game. I do not feel like the freebooting adventurer who can travel anywhere (or almost anywhere), but more like someone in a scripted story."

"2nd : Get rdy for daily 4hrs downtime and pathes etc. Its clear the game shouldnt have been launched, its way far from perfection. I would say eq2 is atm in Beta stage."

"Personally I think this game is the best ever so far. Of course it need improvments but then again which games doesn't at a launch??"

"I'm on my 4th character in three days, been re-rolling. This time it's to get away from the players with asshat names like "Http", "JessicasMom", etc and probably migrate to a roleplaying server where, hopefully, folks take the game more seriously."

Does any of this sound familiar? :-)

Nice to see the "EQ2 will be teh r0xx0rZ" crowd having to eat some humble pie...

As I said at the beginning, Lawrence please delete/close this if it's against forum policy. I tried to resist posting it, honest, but the chance to say 'I told you so' was just to good to miss :-)

Eh... even though on every new mmorpg's forums people tell them that all other MMORPG's basically suck at release, that they should have stayed x more month in beta etc.. some people enjoy those games, others are disappointed and voicing their opinions...

You can bet there's going to be the same kind of tendance on WoW forums and other games in the future... people don't learn, devs rarely do (but they're people too right?)

I'm playing both and they both have their problems and plus points.

Ryzom crashes for me, FAR more often than EQ2 for example.
Ryzom has a nicer gfx engine tho - EQ2 is not as pretty.
But EQ2 does have a lot more detail and the feel of a game with stuff to do, rather than a world where you can do what you want within the limited options available to you.
EQ2 is very very polished compared to Ryzom with more attention to detail.

That said, they are very different games - comparing them doesn't really make sense to me, and actually playing EQ2 made me appreciate some of things in Ryzom that I had taken for granted - like the seasonal high quality world. To be honest I think I'll continue to play both - and swap between them when I get bored. I wouldn't say one was better than the other - if EQ2 used Ryzom's engine or if Ryzom had the level of content of EQ2 and the finishing touches, you'd be damn close to a perfect MMORPG in my book.

Yep, good point, im not gonna play eq2 after this eye-opener :)

"Performance help"

Yes of cource a game that they have stated several times is not meant to be played at the highest settings is gonna run bad. I on the other hand think its pretty neat that when i get a new and faster pc in about a year EQ2 is gonna look even better

"Am I the only one to hate the 'Find NPC Quest' system in EQ2?"

You can ask any npc guard where a npc is, and you will get a golden line leading you right to said npc

"ATI 9600xt - lockups/freezing frequently"

Upgrade your drivers ? Havent had a single crash here, winth my radeon9800pro

"Computer help please!"
?

Well you have several avaiable places to lvl at the lvl i am at now (17), in fact there are 2 dungeons and huge outdoor areas i can lvl in that is suited to my lvl range
"2nd : Get rdy for daily 4hrs downtime and pathes etc. Its clear the game shouldnt have been launched, its way far from perfection. I would say eq2 is atm in Beta stage."
This is already sorted out, and the issue about them taking down the servers for hours in european prime time is also sorted out
"Personally I think this game is the best ever so far. Of course it need improvments but then again which games doesn't at a launch??"
Yea EQ2 certainly is a good game, but the best ? hmmm :)

Hardly any of these around if you compare it to how many people are actually playing

Eq2 is a good game. Virtually no bugs at all except the occational person haveing technical problems (and concidering theres what, 200k ppl playing the game, thats not a real shocker) The quests are fun and well thought out, epecially the "drop quests" ie quests that drop from mobs, like a treasure map leading you to a tree with buried treasure, only to be ambushed as you start seraching in the tree.
Oh and the huge talking statue me and 5 others were messing around with in a lowbie zone that suddenly woke to life and kicked our asses ! man we just couldnt believe it, im still kinda awestruck by that experience.

Both games, well all 3 games (ryzom, wow, eq2) has their merits, their unique aspects, their lent aspects, their target crowd. Cant please everyone at once you know !
