How's Ranged Combat Look After Patch 1?

What's anyone think? Is it viable now, or should we all stick with melee?

Stick with melee as your primary fighting career path, but range is better now than before.

Its worth it just to help you gain some more SP to help fill out your fighting skills.

Its good for extra SP as the previous poster said. As for being an effective fighting medium its quite a joke.

I wore my full heavy armour and using a QL50 NPC rifle with player made QL40 ammo fought against Scampering Caprynis and Roaming Bodoks. XP was about 1200-1300ish per kill but max damage was 62 and the only special attack I could utilise was accuracy. This meant that I needed about half to a full magazine of ammo to kill one mob and it was pains-takingly slow.

The best tactic was to have a horde of ammo and take on 2-3 at a time for the the steady XP roll-in while checking health levels with the odd self heal. Any more adds and things begun to get tricky as crits' affected me more and health went down quicker.

I make my own ammo at QL40 as stated earlier and Rifle ammo takes 4 mats that I harvest myself. Without being a harvester this would cost an arm and a leg.

Ranged as it stands is for extra SP at lower levels as using it against higher mobs is suicidal as you cant match the damage output of magic or melee.
