:eek: Ok sence every time I log on this conversation begin's I thought I would make a thread for it. Not sure if there already is one but anywho. How are evreyones thoughts on the cost of fire arms and ammo. Usualy im bombed with hate when I say its rather justified with what guns being rather exoctic and all. I know that using them costs an arm and a leg but for me i bounce between melee/Range and my focus is ranged/ammo crafting which i usualy make with quarterd creatures keeping me from having to buy from merchants. So SOR community what are your thoughts on this hot issue and are there any others like me who see it justified. :eek:

also note to forum maintainers a debate section in the forums would b cool to have!

I just reached level 20 craft last night and got the plan for a matis rifle and matis rifle piercing ammo. 1st thing I did was made myself a rifle and then just used some cheap materials to craft my own ammo.. I don't think its that expensive really. Keep in mind that im still in the newbie town and I pretty much 2 shot everything except the kipi(the big starship trooper alien things).

I really didn't get into ranged weapon/ ammo crafting to make money, just to keep myself supplied with ammo. I might get into selling later. Anyway when do you think I could start making money off of it though?

I used a gun a lot in Beta, and if there's one way to make a customer appreciate the expense of creating a gun and ammo (and why it's so expensive), offer to do it for a very nominal cost if the customer provides the materials.

They will soon understand that gathering materials for a good weapon and powerful ammo require a fair amount of work! Fighters who rely primarily on ranged will go through ammo quickly, and if they want good gear they will either need to hunt particular critters or buy mediocre mats from the merchants.

Personally, I feel that crafters should feel free to set whatever prices they desire. The customer is always welcome to pick up the skills for himself if price is a concern, and crafters who set their prices too high naturally find themselves with few or no customers. ;)

I think the most use will be in guild situations. Also, knocking out a couple of levels in ranged may be a faster way to get a few needed skill points when your melee skill is already really high. Still, you will largely end up with people who make their own ammo and buy the guns, or who make both the guns and ammo. People may buy a gun and a few clips just to see it, but in general, I cannot imagine someone paying what is necessary to keep supplied with ammo, not to mention that the added bulk of the clips could hinder them, as well. Still, I think it would be quite rewarding having my guns as standard field equipment for a guild. Seeing a whole guild force whipping out guns and blazing away has to be an impressive sight :)

well im glad to see there are people who agree with my thoughts that guns are not over priced as i find the majority of people in game who complain are not crafting there ammo so they spend a substantial amount of money. The guild I am currently building will have its own ammo crafters to cut down on cost ect. I myself do the same as you guys and craft my own ammo and guns when needed. :eek:

The flip side is that for the quality level a basic firearm is arguably the most damaging in the game.

For basic ql10 zorai firearms and ammo, I'm getting something like 43-47 damage just using bought wondermats and my own crafting. This compares deadon to acid 2 without the sap drain - or the 45 SPs - and is well above any ql 10 melee weapon (without any addons like increase damage)...especially for a weapon that can be used without any training whatsoever.

Its expensive - 2 SPs in ranged cost me something like 10K of ammo - but I'm planning on maxxing out my below 50 skills. One side benefit many people don't realize - you can cast magic with a firearm. Useful for a fear/shoot combo.
