not enabled for these forums?
says I can't PM anyone because I have it disabled but I'm blind and not seeing where to enable them at. Hopefully I'm not being blind and dumb.

When you registered first time there was an option to enable/disable the messaging. And as there are no links to control panel at the moment, to go and reactivate it, there's couple of ways to do it:
1) http://ryzom.com/forum/usercp.php
2) Add someone to your buddy list and you'll see your control panel during that.
3) While browsing the forums, click the control panel from the forum jump box located on the rightlower corner.
4) ...would be to click your Private Messages link, but since you don't have it atm.
