Re: Blame it on the GOO!
Mayber there is a way to affect the goo. This is an idea I had after first reading this thread last night and I am at work now, so bear with me.jenuviel wrote:Unless I'm mistaken, there's absolutely no way to fight the goo implemented at this point in time, is there? If I'm wrong, I'll be glad to admit it. If the current state of the game is a function of spreading goo and there's no way to actually reverse that function through in-game means, however, it's just a string of "rp-esque" text in a paragraph of patch notes being used to justify what appears to be a poor design decision. If they're planning on putting a system in that would allow players to affect the goo, and therefore creature strength, then that's the kind of thing that should have been implemented simultaneously with the increased mob strength. To just pump up all the wildlife and leave the player population no choice but to fend them off with limp ramen noodles and harsh language seems like a very bad idea.
I am on the Matis mainland and I have been noticing these green "pods" growing out of the ground, they look a bit like green brains, but I don't know the name. Shortly after my arrival on the mainland I attacked one, it had a magic attack, but gave very little experience. Since they were non-aggressive and it was before patch one I know nothing about goo or extra hp mobs, so I just ignored them.
But isn't it possible that these pods that look like brains and attack with a magic attack are behind the aggressive mob problem we are all facing? Could they be the "goo" mentioned?
Maybe someone who isn't at work can see if anything happens after killing 20 of these things. Oh, and here is a question, if they are killed, do they respawn?

The purple on the ground is goo. The assumption is that the purple fog is the goo going from solid form into a gas and going into the atmosphere. Animals are not harmed by the goo, and appariently it makes them stronger and more aggressive. However for homins it hurts them. So it's possible that the higher concentration in the air is not enough to harm the homins, but just enough to effect the animals.
Currently there is no way to fight the goo. Like the riding of the Mektoub, it is probably a skill that has been forgotten over the ages, only known by a certain few. It's my belief that secret is known to several of the tribes found deep within the wilderness. Two of these might be The Master of The Goo and The Goo Heads. If one wishes to know the secrets of dealing with the goo, they will probably have to become very friendly and gain the trust of these tribes (get a high fame level).

Aha! Well, it was just a guess.
Thanks Raynes.

Re: Blame it on the GOO!
You know Raynes, this is the most productive information you have put forth recently, and I thank you for it.
Would it also be possible for you to link a map for us to show us where these two tribes are?
Also, if the tribes sell equipment, say, harvesting picks, maybe they have special 'picks' that allow us to 'mine' the goo away.
This is the first real information I have seen that could shed some light on the entire goo problem.

LOL, I can be helpful once in a while. The story really hasn't started, but I can promise you when it does you will see an entire new side of me. Eschiava will tell you that.
As for the locations of the two tribes, I will try to come up with some sort of map tonight (if I can find them again!). Though they are tribes that are for the most part located near the goo, which in Witherings is on the edge of the map. That means they are all located in the level 200-250 areas. Which also means they won't talk to you or sell stuff to you until you reach that level. It's also not possible to get missions from them to get fame as you also need to be that level to have those open up. There is also the chance that those missions and information have not been implemented yet.

"Greetings, madame, I'm the Master of the Goo."
"Uhh...great. Before you sit down, let me put the plastic slipcover on my sofa..."
(Seriously, though, Goo Heads? Master of the Goo? While I have no doubt they could pummel me into dust, they're not exactly names that beg to be taken seriously. Even if they did beg, I'd probably be too busy giggling to hear them. )
