Blame it on the GOO!

Post by YellowSnow »

Look at the notes again for Chapter 1:
"Animals are reported as being more aggressive and tougher than before! Officials put it down to an increase in goo concentration in the atmosphere which influences the creatures' genetic make-up. Consequently all animals inflict significantly more damage than before. What's more, deranged giant animals that haunt the darker corners of the world have undergone blood-chilling metamorphoses and appear to be gathering new minions around them. These awesome creatures may have looked pretty wicked before, but now they'd freak the bravest warrior out of his boots!"
Obviously there is nothing us homins can do about the increased damage from the mobs, at least for now. Maybe if we all band together and find the goo that's causing this, we can lay rest to some of the aggro spawn.
I believe Chapter 2 will be the real eye opener for all of us, but the sad thing is the people who already cancelled will never know why...BLAME IT ON THE GOO!!

That's the way I take it. I guess that would explain why the developers have been silent....it's supposed to be this way. Only time will tell if it will change back or not...damm goo. :)

They plan on adjusting it. But I think we may have only just seen the beggining of the goo problem (not saying they going to make them even harder, but will definately see an increase of named mobs for killing possibly, once again this is just theory(this applies to everything but the adjusting)).

I do belive that this is the 1st time I have seen anyone in all the recent 'discussion' of the recent patch, mention that portion of the patch notes.
I haven't read all the posts (I mean after 200 'this game is broke', and 300 'you have to trust nevrax' posts, you just start to skim) so someone might have mentioned it before.

But it makes me wonder. If it's not simply a thin rational for tinkering with the game mechanics, does that mean there would be actions the players can take to reduce the influence of the goo and so reduce the agressiveness and ferocity of the animals. Or will we see cycles of this, animals too hard, then cylces down to 'normal', then easy, etc. . depending on local goo conditions.

That makes me think of a few questions

Could this possibly be part of the 'evolving world' we've been promised?

Can you really, significantly, change the game world without changing the game mechanics as well?

How different do we really want our gaming experience to be?

What does "all the Xp i deserve" really mean?

Could the devs have known what they were doing and intended to make these changes, but their real error was in not communicating their intentions and underestimating the flexibility and adaptability of the player base?

Can a Zorai ever really be naked w/ that mask?

What is the best level to leave the newb lands?

If a cancelled account posts in the forums, does it get noticed?

I freely admit, having advanced to 71 harvest as my highest skill level, I was not exposed to the higher level content the seems to be the most altered. I did not experience patch 1 as negativly as many others did so perhaps my thoughts arn't as cogent as others.
I will be, for now, (I'm almost positive I have broken the EQ spell and won't be buying EQ2 - I'm taking it 1 day at a time) awaitng the next patch(es) to see what direction the story will take.

if anyone has made it to the end of this, thank you for your time, and no you cannot get that time refunded.

Unless I'm mistaken, there's absolutely no way to fight the goo implemented at this point in time, is there? If I'm wrong, I'll be glad to admit it. If the current state of the game is a function of spreading goo and there's no way to actually reverse that function through in-game means, however, it's just a string of "rp-esque" text in a paragraph of patch notes being used to justify what appears to be a poor design decision. If they're planning on putting a system in that would allow players to affect the goo, and therefore creature strength, then that's the kind of thing that should have been implemented simultaneously with the increased mob strength. To just pump up all the wildlife and leave the player population no choice but to fend them off with limp ramen noodles and harsh language seems like a very bad idea.

Goo? Goof is more like it. Ok I have just hit frustration lvl 2. A tweak here a nerf there .... and you must wait a week. I was expecting patch 21 last Monday. I guess my $15 means nothing to them. The Goo has claimed another. I didnt take this crap from SWG sure not going to put up with it here. I give Blizzard a try. At least Blizzard has a rep for putting out stuff that works. Was a nice dream, too bad its over before it even got started.
