Taunt has saved the lives of many of my friends. That's its primary purpose. That you can pull mobs with it, well secondary. I do wish it had a bit longer range, so that I could control mobs a bit better in a chaotic fight.neofuzz wrote:Ya I thought I was like a visionary when I also thought of this and sent it in as a suggestion to the gm's. They didn't agree. Anyways IMO "Rock Chuck" skills should be implemented ASAP. We could forage our own rocks too, or maybe chuck yubo's instead... hmmm this now gives me an idea for an event... Re: Is taunt to close for comfort
I just tried taunt again after last patch. I wanted to see if what an English player had said was true. It is, heavy armor reduces the taunt distance and he's right that doe's not make sence. If your going to be puller you are going to need heavy armor.
Re: Is taunt to close for comfort
Actually.... With acid 1 on my daggers, and wearing light armor, i get a 41m range (45 if i just use 1 dagger) casting the enchantment. Which is more than enough distance to pull with. With a 600 sap load, thats enough for 200 casts/pulls. Have both dagger full before heading out lets you have 400 consecutive pulls without having to recharge. Yes this doesn't work when mobs are too close together, but thats where its prudent for your healer to have a heal without a cast time credit/range credit. Taunt in LA + 50m heal range = 70m pull distance without problems. Just need to have that tank ready to pull aggro off.jackmor wrote:I just tried taunt again after last patch. Taunt is really just ment to be used to take the aggro on to yourself, from someone else. Hence the short range. Its a side effect that it can be used for pulling, not its main purpose.
The changes your are suggesting are all based on the belief that 'pull' is its true function.
Re: Is taunt to close for comfort
I,ll have disagree on that one borg. If taunt were not intended to be used as a pull tool and spells are the only correct way to pull then the herds of herbivores would not be so closely pacted and spells would not agro surrounding mobs.borg9 wrote:Taunt is really just ment to be used to take the aggro on to yourself, from someone else. I don't mean to flame here, and now that I look at both our statments I think were both assuming quite a bit.

Re: Is taunt to close for comfort
Strategize. If I need a pull that is quick while other monsters are facing away. I taunt up close and run. Unfortunately You take a few hits. This works on mobs that I can chain pull like robust messab.
If I'm pulling a mob that I can't afford the hp loss, I'll use an acid spell. These take time to cast. I need to wait for the mob to break apart from the group and put myself in a path where I can begin casting as soon as the mob is in a safe zone. I'll still back off as I fight in case an addable begins to follow. Since I pulled it off the path with a spell this is minimal.
Spells also have a short distance, but it's longer than taunt. I usually do it without my shield. I'm wearing mostly medium armor. Heavy armor is good in a full set for grouping, but medium is really the way to go if you want to do some dangerous pulls in a highly populated sector.

Re: Is taunt to close for comfort
Ok I see what you guys are saying. There are alot of ways to pull a mob but, thats not the point. What Im trying to say is that the taunt distance is to short because its 20- meters depending on your armor. Im not saying it should be 100 or 50 meters but, how about no reduction penalty or somthing thats more effective than its currant state? I can throw a rock farther than 20 meters.

I think we both agree that the Taunt action is to draw aggro.jackmor wrote:I,ll have disagree on that one borg. I never said spells were the only correct way to pull.
I said the fact that taught has a range means that it can be used for pulling, however it is my belief that this was not its orginal design intent.
Pulling of mobs is a player thing:
Can be acheived with spells (just ask my friend Mel who used a spell to pull a single Messab and got a herd of 20 rush him!)
Can be acheived with taunt
Can be acheived by walking up to a bodoc, dancing around till you get its attention and then lead it back to the group.
To summaries, the reason I beleive the taunt range is short and affected by armour is that it is intended to be used by a player at very close range to draw the attention of the attacking mob from another play on to themselves.
Any method can be used to 'pull', there are many ways some work some don't.
