Post by krnbrd »

Ok so atm my toon is Fighint 12, Magic 1 , Crafting 1 and Harvesting 10 i believe......when is a good time to hit the mainland.

I was thinking whena ll my skills where at 20.....or is that overkill?

and OMG when people say htey are level 40 does that mean in one skill or all skills added up?!

I am soo confused right now lol.

You can leave when you want to, Im leaving the mainland when my Melee hits about 30 or 35 (im 29 now) Just to be safe. I suggest you stick around for a while meet new people and learn the game a bit more (thats if you wernt on beta) :)

Most GM's will suggest that you don't leave for the mainland until you have 20 in Fight or Magic. You /can/ survive if you leave earlier, but it is suggested not before level 20.

Friend of mine and I left the mainland at 17 (fight for me, magic for him). Don't make the mistake we did. You need to be at least 20 to transition smoothly from the starting area to the mainland in regards to experience. Otherwise, you are going to see a 1500xp drop off per mob killed, and the mobs will be harder.

If you do leave the starting area early, save yourself the agony and just solo the weak mobs directly outside the main towns. Even if the guards KS ya a couple times, it is much faster and safer xp than moving out into the surrounding area.

Different strokes for different folks... I left the mainland at level 7 harvester, all else at level 1. Some folks stay on newblands til level 50, most around level 20 from what I have seen. It depends on your comfort level with skill trees and your intended build. There is no wrong way....

In beta I left around level 10 or something. That was a rough time for a while lol. But I made it though.

I'd say at level 20 you should be good. You'll have to kill the little critters for some time but it'll be fun. The Island gets boring if you stay for too long and it's not a challenge anymore.

Anything past 25 is overkill imho. I went when I was 24. I've had no problem; currently at 41 Fighting.

Look at it this way:

No one ever suffers permanent consequences for waiting a bit longer to go to the mainland.

If, however, you go there too early, you may find you are unprepared and it may be very difficult to level up there... and there's no going back to the island.

So don't be in a hurry - stay on the island until you know you've done everything you can there. You will get to a point where you recognize that your skills are now beyond what the island can offer (you can solo multiple Weeny Kipees with little risk, or your crafting has developed to the point where the mats you'd need to do your best work are not found on the island), then you will know it's time to go.

Another tip I'd offer to everyone: If you have to ask "How do I get to the mainland?" you are NOT ready! The newbie islands exist to help you learn the ropes in relative safety, if you haven't discovered the Kami/Karavan on your own you haven't explored enough or paid attention. ;)
