Ok, I decided to team up to lvl my def. magic wich just got to lvl 20.
Our team was:
Me, doing def. mafic @ lvl 21 (highest skill lvl 131 desert foraging)
Rikka, doing 56 dual wield (highest skill lvl 76 2h)
Syntax, doing 48 defence (highest skill lvl 116 desert foraging)
Ok, we where at 4 ways killing Strong Kizoars and vigilant Kipee bringing in about 2000 XP each kill.
Now, all my friends removed their DP twice as fast as me.
they got more DP from same amount of XP than me.
example: 1k XP removed 2200 DP from me.
It removed other team mates for ~4k DP.
I had bout 120k DP at the hunt start, and after a while people said their DP was gone while I had 60k left!!! And like 20 minutes later we had an accident with 2 pulls instead of one that got us killed, and added DP. I now was back at like 100k DP, Meaning all the evening teamhunting was in vain.
I sent a ticket to ask what was wrong, cause the team mates could start lvl muuuch earlier than me. We were bout the same lvls that we used "active" in combat. And I thought it was unfair. The SG who replyed obviously culdnt tell me why it was like this since this thing is "of-that-kind-of-nature-that-players-should-find-out-themselves".
Well, since Ive heard DP is depending somewhat on your highest lvl, I decided to check the numbers while foraging.
1000 XP gave me 2200 DP when I used def. magic.
1007 XP from forage gave me 13204 DP (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
This means that we that have forage as main profession gets crippled in combat situations if we were to die soloing or in team. If we were teamhunting in the guild or so and died, we need to take a break from the hunt to forage back to normal XP!!! How much of a fun killer isnt that?
I understand that this must be a way to balance getting back DP u got by your primary profession. Before Episode 1 all melees used forage to get back DP as we got like 3k XP each source and got rid of like 30k DP each soure.
Buit is this a good way to solve this??
It means in my case that Im crippled starting to multiclass and partake in combat. I suffer in combat just because im a forager.
What does the community think?
If I die while lvling my newly begun def. magic carrier, I need to break to forage away the DP on q 200 sources.. meaning ticket using or deathtravel.

Re: XP and DP between skillbranches
I heard something that to be most effective to get rid of your DP you have to do it in your highest prof. Friend of mine testing this actully got less DP then he got XP. He was 125 2 hand and was trying out forage, somewhere lvl 2-5 i think. Not sure if they changed that with the latest fix.
This meens that if someone reaches lvl 250 and want to try out a new profesion, or a new line of a profesion, they are basicly screwed when it comes to DP removal, since they have to go back to there main prof to get rid of it in a timely manner.
I don't think this is a good way to stop the fighter-forage-of-DP syndrom. Unfortunetly I don't have a good idea about how to fix that either.

Re: XP and DP between skillbranches
It has always been like that
The amount of DP you get is a function of your highest single skill, regardless of what skill you used when you died
DP regained is the ([lvl of the skill you used]/10)*[xp gained], so if you use a lvl 50 skill and get 1000 xp you regain 5000 DP

Re: XP and DP between skillbranches
There are No professions in this Game you are not Limited by a choice of career or by being a certian class. This is bad thinking.
Yes the DP multiplier is based on your lvl in the skill you are currenlty using. and your DP is based on your highest skill lvl.
you will notice that as you gain lvls you will get back more Dp per xp, also that your DP will be larger when you die.
Net Gain being that the best skill to reduce your DP with is your highest.
It is of course very annoying when you get 120k dp and only get back 10kDP from fighting in a team and getting 3k xp per kill. especially while otheres are making 30k+ dp back per kill.

Re: XP and DP between skillbranches
Ok, sorry Ive ben away some days.. My VISA wasnt properly configured it seemed when the free month expired.
Now to the debate:
blacke:
Yes, thats exactly what was described in my post. When I forage I get insanely amounts of DP back from same XP as gained in def magic use.
I dont think its fair by faaar
It limits your character and force it to take on other professions than the ne you want to lvl.
jokque:
Yes, thnx for clearing that up. I was told that when I asked around, but do you think its ok?
0waxman0:
Of course there are professions, atleast according to my personal interpretation of the word. Or are we all meant to be "all-in-one" chars? Cant I be a melee only? and so on..
I entered this game wanting to be hard core dual wield fighter just to after a few days see that it meant limits. I then took on foraging to make people able to give me gear I need as a fighter. Our crafters needed to lvl, and mats for my weapons. Therefore foraging made my melee life easier too. Thing is, the way the DP is working now, we are crippled to lvl a new profession cause we have to suffer the curse of taking up the best profession everytime we get DP, as continuing lvl in the group is VERY futile and will make u end up witn only DP gone, no lvling.
I see it as a big flaw, a curse even. I HAVE to pick up the pickaxe if I die as a melee The true scenario created MUCH frustration, wich isnt fun
