I was away for the initiation of THE patch & was looking forward to returning, girding my loins and going forth to dispense justice to these evil mobs.
However, as I was loading my magical arsenal I could only get stun 2 (instead of 5 or 6 previously) but got blind 6, fear 6, root 6, acid 7 & cold 7.
Is it just me or are these now less effective than before? All my spells were resisted by ocyx as many as 6 times in a row including acid. It used to be the other way round.
Fine, I thought, stuff that (or a close approximation) so I grabbed my rusty q90 pike and decided to kick the sh....ugar out of them instead. Now I was missing 5 or 6 times in a row and obviously getting no xp.
Now, the question. Is this just me or has this become more common since the inglorious patch?
I look forward to your replies & comments.

Nb. I have the WoW stress test & open beta key. If I keep getting frustrated missing then I might just give it a try. Bet I don't miss as often there.
Hit or a miss, miss, miss, miss.
Re: Hit or a miss, miss, miss, miss.
Welcome to the new ryzom of spell resists and melee missing.
Am i supposed to write something witty here ?
Re: Hit or a miss, miss, miss, miss.
It has become more common, but in the sense that where skills say 'effective up to level X' it seems that anything above 'level X' will more than likely resist.
Same seems to apply for magic and melee, but more so with magic. The trick it seems is to try and stick to mobs of similar level to yourself, although people have reported this sometimes doesn't work too well either.
It would appear that the changes in this respect are perhaps a little harsh

Come hunting with the new and improved Clan Omnis Alyss and see how real fighting happens post-patch

Re: Hit or a miss, miss, miss, miss.
Well I don't know what you were doing wrong then, because I was there with my trusty lvl40 spells and was getting tonnes of xp. Admittedly it was guaranteed xp when I was healing, and I had to actually hit the darn ocyx to get any xp with the offensive spells, but since its level is more than twice the level of the spells, thats to be expected don't you thinkalyssah wrote:I did. I haven't forgotten you I don't remember telling you size doesn't matter though, so it must be what I say to all the girls when I'm drunk and can't remember how big I amalyssah wrote:Nb. Re: Hit or a miss, miss, miss, miss.
No. Not really. I expect a low level spell to do low level damage, not be totally resisted time after time.sprite wrote:Well I don't know what you were doing wrong then, because I was there with my trusty lvl40 spells and was getting tonnes of xp. I tested my spell repertoire at Dyron using the lake as a barrier & letting me get 3 or 4 spells off before swimming. These are the spells I used:
Stun2, blind 6, root 6, fear 5, cold 7, acid 7, acid bomb & q100 amp.
Results: Not one of the first 4 worked on any creature including the nettled timari which is probably the lowest mob there. Against the timari acid 7 scored about 1 in 3 times. Against all other mobs my elemental spells were resisted at least 80% of the time & certain mobs 100%. Lower level spells should still have an effect even if greatly reduced. How many people do you think have levelled much in offensive affliction recently. I am level 83 and I'll still be level 83 at Christmas.
Did you also notice the frustration last night as our average (70/80) melee warriors kept missing? One of the reasons is that as a q90 pike weilder, I can only purchase incr dam & aim for a max q70 & q65 respectively. I need 4 more levels before I get the next upgrade. How the ffff........lipping heck am I going to do that if I can't flipping hit it?
Nevrax - sort it.

if you are lvl 83, what are you doing in Dyron? Find mobs that suit your level, like suggested above. The fact that before the patch you were able to blind an Ocyx was only because that was an exploit. What did you think? People of level 70 we're able to take down one after another and gaining 3k every time... Now that these exploits are finally taken care of, you're telling Nevrax to 'fix' it ?alyssah wrote: I am level 83 and I'll still be level 83 at Christmas.

If you go to an area where there are lower level mobs, you will find it's not that hard to gain levels. just try to find the right mob and the right tactics. And indeed, I myself have also leveled quite a bit in Offensive Affliction, which seems to be quite useless now, but look on the bright sight, at least you have a lot of extra sp that you can spend
Re: Hit or a miss, miss, miss, miss.
with a party size of 9. you expect people to lvl on stuff there own lvl, thats is the only problem. making you lvl on stuff your own lvl makes everyone solo or you need a few good healers a def mage to stun and a hand full of melee chars then go take some nettled timari or arana shouldnt be much problem for a group of 60-90 lvl people our guild has such hunts each day the resists and dodges the mobs have are a little high but thats being delt with in todays patch... hopefully
a good way to do it would maybe be make it so that solo you have to kill stuff your lvl or just a bit higher but make it so that when a team attacks a mob depending on the ammount of people attacking it and there lvls it lowers the mobs def because obviously if you have 3 guys whacking you with large sticks its harder to dodge than if its just 1 and if its 9 guys with big sticks whacking you youd most probably dodge like a brick

Re: Hit or a miss, miss, miss, miss.
Thanks for the advice Vaynen. Could you go a little further and advise me where these level 60, 70, 80 or 90 mobs suitable for soloing are to be found? And could you advise these solo warriors how to get out of Fyros. I would be interested in that advice. My Guild, Clan Omnis, did a run to Matis, which I was lucky enough to complete and now have my ticket to ride. However, these mobs of level 60 to 100 must be able to use a better blind than the one I have because it has certainly kept them well hidden. Could you use your clarity spell & open my eyes to what & where these beasties lurk and how come their blind spell works better than mine. I went all over Matis on my very own yesterday (safely away from its very dangerous borders) and received 18 xp for making ragus burgers. I haven't been all over Fyros yet either as it is bloody deadly (like the fringes of Matis) even in a skilled group. So, where do I go to find these kind mobs for soloing?vaynen wrote:if you are lvl 83, what are you doing in Dyron? Find mobs that suit your level, like suggested above. Nb. I still can't get Inc dmg or acc for my q90 pike as I can't level against the mobs I do find. However, I am now a skilled healer & q136 desert/q67 forest forager. Before the patch, I was struggling to reach q50.
