A question to all of those complaining about combat...

Combat isn't this huge messed up mess that people make it out to be. Why is there a mass exodus (and I really think that's a bad term)? Because before the patch people would run out and kill a pack of ragus no problem. Or they would kill some kippes with no problems at all. Then they sign in and they can't just run up and kill things, they have to actually think about what they kill.

If you take the time to learn the system, then you will see it works. The problem is that no one seems to take to time to learn.

We think it sucks.

That's why people are leaving.

With any luck you'll be the last one enjoying a perfect game again, like in earth and beyond right? Maybe you should actually read what some of those people who are leaving have to say about why they are leaving rather than making assumptions about it.

Lets make it simple. Nevrax is a business out to make money from customer subscriptions. If they're losing customers, then the patch is not a "business success". It is not a good "business change". Unfortunately that seems to make it just right for a few people.

I am sorry you are having these difficulties, you have posted it many times and I do understand what you are saying and the problems you are having, I just don't understand why. You challenged me in another post saying I was either lying or mistaken. Many people seem to be having the same experience you are, and I feel for you all. Many of us are still having a great experience. This is where you say we stick our head in the sand and are mindless followers.

So let me offer this. Look up the members of Pegasus Foundation in game. Come out grouping with us and see what we do. If it does not work you can see. If it does I expect an apology. I cannot speak for other guilds, but I have seen VVV and OOC doing very well and running XP groups. I have witnessed Melinoe hunting Ocyx for 3k xp, and others as well. Look them up, talk to them, or at least watch and see what they do.

If you are not willing to keep an open mind to possibilities, then there is nothing I can say to change your mind, and you just want to be mad at the changes. I hope you find a game you like. I would rather you could find a way to enjoy this one, because as much as you really irratate me, people like you are essential if this game is ever to succeed. I hope to see you in game and hope you can find a way to enjoy it.

The thing that so many of you do not understand is that the patch isn't just something that was whipped up over night and thrown onto the server. It was something that was in planning and developement for month. The new systems are not simple systems. It's very obvious they created the new mob level notification system and the new combat system to work with each other. Along with that there are MANY other parts of the patch that have been applied to the game. Including the complete reset of all characters. So when all of you scream that you demand a rollback of the entire patch, or you demand a rollback of "combat" to the way it was, that is not something that is within the realm of reason. Is it possible, yes. Is it practicle, no.

The thing that really ticks me off about so many of the people who are screaming and quitting is that all they do is say "combat sucks, put it back". I have yet to see any of the people complaining about combat refernce the new level system. The only thing they seem to say is "I used to be able to kill a hard kipee, not it kills me.

You want the devs to change the combat system, stop screaming about how Nevrax is out to ruin the fun for everyone, and actually get in the game and do some real tests to show that combat does not work. Go find some mobs that are your own level and see if you can kill them. If you can't, then post the details (what you tried to kill, how you attempted to kill it).

Because right now, I have proven that with a melee fighter at level 70, it is very possible to get xp. I have proven (with actual game data) that combat is not broken. So now it's up to you to prove it does not work. Prove you can't earn xp.

Yes this is basically what it comes down to for the nevrax-apologists at this moment of time:

If you can earn XP then the game is fine.

Some of us, with a more nuanced view feel that concepts such as risk/reward ratio are more integral to a MMORPG than the aforementioned basic assertation.

In any regard, none of the posters in this thread or any other thread have been able to show me how I am supposed to stop being resisted by enemies in a team so I can gain offensive magic xp o.o

A major compontent of why I am upset is that I cannot advance my profession in a team with my friends. Melee is effective to a higher level than magic is, thats just a fact of the current game mechanics.

People can spout off how the game is perfect and working as the developers intended until their blue in the face, but for some reason I cannot bring myself to believe that the developers intended for me to not earn any XP in a team filled with people my own level.

But hey, I guess I *could* be wrong about that.

I understand what you are saying about business choices. I have no good answer for you. Studies have shown if Nevrax would just turn all their paid for servers into porno servers they would make money. Big business you know, internet porn. But they wanted to make a game instead. They have had the idea for the game for some time and have worked hard to implement it. In the end they may actually get it done just how they want it and find there are too few players playing to pay for it. It flops. Could happen. If you had an idea, would you try to stick to it and put it out as you concienved of it, or let dollars be the most important. I know I know ... I have run several business myself, I own some now, that is why I can spend way too much time playing games and trolling forums ... businesses have to make money. But they supposedly have an eight year story plan. Patch one fits into this plan, if they just throw it out how do you implement the next several patches and additions? You can not.

Perhaps there is no good answer to satisfy both game planning and business success. If you or I actually had a plan to meet all the needs of game development and financial success in todays market we would be on a beach some where and not playing an MMORPG in our spare time. We can see the problems, but the solution is ellusive. Unless you have it figured out already, if so, just show me your alpha game and I will find you backers. I hope they can find a solution, I truely enjoy this game and find the patch to make sense and be very reasonable in the overall scheme. I hope enough others do that it is profitable to continue it.

Jim I have read a lot of your post, so many I am getting them confussed because you touch on many of the same issues over and over. I am however trying to be civil because I understand your points and frustrations. Because I do not agree with all of them does not mean I don't see the merits of your argument.

A savage frahar (lvl 101) gives me 200xp... ho hum i think you get the picture .I cannot solo anything for decent xp anymore, for anything above that mob has a big chance of resisting my spells.

Solution: Find a team. We were a group of 9 people killing nettled and vicious lumpers for 2-3k xp each, when we would be getting a max of 1k each prepatch. The tripled heal power compared to doubled mob damage actually gives us an advantage as well, and combat is at a faster pace.

now we realize that nevrax is forcing us to group, so why do we have to resist ? hunting in groups is much more entertaining than hunting solo, and much more rewarding. There is a general misconception that the server populations are ridicoulously low even at peak times, which is false.
As we all know, trolls like to exaggerate... ( that was not aimed at anyone in particular)
