My wife and I just cancelled our accounts..

Post by jksmith »

This post is not intended to insult anyones intellect that knows the ins and outs of online gaming, but we felt like we needed to relieve ourselves of The Saga of Ryzom.

Basically it came down to a couple of things.. We have both played mmorpg's for over 5 years, starting with Asheron's Call and Evercrack.. Then we moved on to Anarchy Online and SWG.. Basically playing everything under the sun in the online gaming realm..

After reading the reviews of Ryzom we were anticipating it to be a great game, but..

- There are no quests in the game. There are missions, which is fine.. However the missions are the weakest that I have EVER seen in any game. Run outside of town and kill 2 mobs. Run outside of town and target this mob. Craft this piece of armor 5 times and trade it back to me. These were far from entertaining, but alas a means to acquire dapper. Well, with the wonderful changes I think we all have felt the dapper cut on the missions. How is a new player supposed to make SOME money in order to purchase new gear? Where is the content??

- There are no dungeons. Every online game of this type needs to have adverse environments for it's players to interact with. True the outdoor graphics are nice, but if your giving me a sword and shield or an Acid Spell you had better give me some dungeon lurking too. Sadly, games made over 5 years ago had MUCH better content despite rough starts as well. You can do quests right off the bat in Asheron's Call, HUNDREDS of individual dungeons.. In Anarchy Online, you actually enter a building or den *ooh ahh!* and go through a mission.. Do you do that here?? No.. Where is the content??

- We felt like the community was initially very week compared to other online games. Usually a game is announced and then a player base builds in anticipation of the game. The game goes live and then the community comes to life.. We felt like there was little to offer in the way of this.. Things seem to be doing better now, but go take a look at any of the upcoming online games.. See a difference??

- The First Patch... They are never a good thing.. I will give them props for patching the patch to the patch in a timely fashion... What the hell were you thinking when you let it hit live servers!?! USE THE ATS!!! There is no way that patch was played "for weeks" as was said by living human beings!! Either that or Nevrax does not listen to it's testers for sh_t...

I am very upset that I dished out over $100 usd for a game that was about 1/2 as good as Asheron's Call or Everquest, games that started this whole thing 5 years ago!!!

I met some very cool people in my time here. I really wish you all the best of luck and hope the game come through for you..

For those of you new to online gaming and feel you are experts and *need* to express your opinion on how great the combat/magic/crafting/devs/gm's are in Ryzom, you REALLY need to open up your eyes and explore the online gaming community before you are so apt to kiss a$$. I have played better browser based games....

I will be completely honest. Anytime a post is preceded by "this is our l33t knowledge of MMORPGs" I tend to ignore anything following. Ryzom as a world is better than AC or EQ - or WoW, or .. ok AO is pretty cool...

Ryzom as a community is better than everything save for possibly AC...

Ryzom CSR is better than anything except possibly AO...

Ryzom in combat is perfectly fine - Ryzom in balance of monsters is not so great. I just found out I could kill EASILY a 1 star Kizoar for 1k i roughly 5 hits, while a 1 star Kipee killed me in 7.

Ryzom in crafting beats everything as far as I am concerned. SW:G might be better, but I never played a crafter there long enough to find out. Horizons is not bad, but ... what's the word ... a grind.

Truthfully, everything about Ryzom is pretty awesome except for risk v reward on certain mobs (and the aggro of Gingo/Ragus).

I mean, since you think playing every other MMO means you're right, I figured I'd better respond to your way of thinking :P

why is it that when someone cancels their account they have to make an entirely new topic on it? who cares, the topics always have the same gripe in them so why not have just one sticky "i canceled because i think this game sucks please let me whine" topic.

i do commend you on sounding intelligent in your post.

The answer to your question is this: They post to leave a footprint. One that can be read and gleaned for their reasoning. The DEV's and CSR do read this as well as everyone else and those of us who really loved what was initially offered are also under the impression our efforts might actually influence the end game making it a stable relationship between DEV's and Players.

lol, yup that 100 dollar for the pair is a pain, I feel you as my wife and I also game together. personaly I just don't see alot out there that seems worth playing. EQ, if it wasn't a sony game perhaps. but after swg I'm really tired of sonys lets make money attitude. wow seems aimed at a younger age group . The rest I've been in at least once. I had high hopes for this game, looking for a more modern ac. but the last few days, even though I'm not upset about the crappy patches has really cooled my take on this game. good luck, but I think I'll at least try this game and see how it comes along.

you know AC is doing a complete graphics upgrade early next year? could be a good thing...

maybe when they get some actual content I'll take a peek at it again, but games these days should be MUCH better than what we played 5 years ago and Ryzom is not doing it..

jksmith, WoW has no content either. it's got a poorly written script covering up the same mindless grinding that's in every MMO. WoW's got you jumping through hoops just to do more of the same. it's hilarious.

"certain quests unlock other quests, to form an intricate storyline"

so you FedEx this to him, and then he'll LET you FedEx THIS to this OTHER guy. wow, awesome. you're a lucky sob if you ask me. you know, you can get a job like that in real life! and that pays YOU a wee bit more than $15 a month to do it! hrm. ;)

that is not content. that's grinding with a happy face in front. it's almost insulting that they consider this enough to entertain people. wait, it does. my hope for the human race has just gone down the drain.

:)

have fun with WoW.
