A question to all of those complaining about combat...

Post by raynes »

How many of you have actually taken the time to go to an area outside of your starting region and try to fight things?

I'm a level 71 Melee fighter and I was in Maiden Grove killing Izams and Yber's for 1000-1200xp a pop.

I've done some fighting in a number of different areas. Yrkanis is BAD for the number of gingos/ragus's. Down by Natae or Davae, and it is no where near as bad.

I am a tryker, so my options are fairly limited. But I have tried:

Dew Drops - Best thing I can reliably solo with magic is about 600 xp. If I hang out near the water.

Winds of Muse - I have a ticket here so thankfully I don't have to worry about trying to make it past the level 150 Torbaks and Zerxs that guard a zone filled with levl 58 to 88 monsters... but I digress. Same exact thing as Dew Drops. I can solo about 600xp monsters if I hang out near the water.

It is extremely painful and very slow and I can only level either my melee or my elemental magic. My offensive/defensive afflictions refuse to work so I cannot gain any experience with them.

Tried it in a team as well, but the stuff a team fights is to high now that I cannot even land elemental magic on the monsters a quarter of the time.

So yes, I have tried very hard. The game is not very enjoyable and here are my two issues with it:

1) Magic Resists are so high the only way I can reliably gain magic XP is solo now unless I want to heal. Every time I have tried to team, even with characters around my own level mind you (infact in one group I was second highest character...) I cannot land my spells with enough regularity to get experience for every fight. I have the best upgraded stanzas that I can purchase for all my spells. I have tried adding concentration bricks to my spells. Nothing works. The problem is a full team of players my level are capable of defeating an enemy that is outside of the very narrow range where you have even a remotely reasonable resist rate.

2) Melee combat is very fast now and basically has become: Hit increase damage. There is no more strategy left in it at all. The fights are over so fast that I find myself just trying to get the "first hit" in and then spamming the same attack over and over again. It's do-able but the XP rewards are very minimal and the fun is pretty much non existant. If your combat system is more boring than the majority of the combat systems on the market... maybe you should rethink the situtation. Especially when the old ryzoms combat system was very nice. Battles were long enough where I had the ability to select many options in a fight and try different techniqes. Right now the only attack worth having as a melee is increase damage line or accurate attack line (for grouping).

The game *is* playable in many regards, in some regards (such as grouping mages) it is not. But honestly, its not very much fun nor very rewarding or even especially challenging.

A challenging situtation is one where you go into a battle knowing that you have a reasonable degree of success if you are playing propperly. The state of Ryzom is currently: You go into a battle hoping that the random number generator of the game is on your side.

This is one of the reason why I left the original EverQuest. It seems that SoE has learned from their mistake and their new combat arts system (while not innovative compared to other games) will fix this complaint.

Hence, see you all in Norath on the 9th.

I went and bought a whole new pile of better armour (mostly medium), a new and better mace and it made quite a difference. I am mostly now equiped at or above my level and can kill vigilant kizoar for 1900 exp solo. I am lev 66 Ih melee and kizoar are 70+

Get armour with HPs, get jewelry with HPs, it makes a difference.

Dont take a knife to a gun fight!

I did exactly that, and am doing just fine with fighting, killing everything I could before (incl Baying Ragus, wasn't sure about them before)

Another thing I have noticed...

Carnivores (with their larger quantity of mats dropped) tend to hit harder on average (and as max) than herbivores (with lower quantity of mats dropped). While giving similiar xp for similair level mobs.

Tried going out and fighting after Patch 20. Crashed. Tried again. Crash. And again. Since patch 20 game crashes after 8 to 10 minutes, every time.

I've been around Tryker, Matis and Fyros lands, and have not found any single thing i can solo for more than let's say 100 points, cause in fact is more like 50 points.

So yes, i've been looking...

Yes, tried with my 70 Zorai melee, 97 Mage and Fyros 35 Melee. Same situation...too slow a grind on safe mobs, too high DP on Mobsa that give over 1k XP and dwindleing population making appropriate grouping nealry extinct.
