this is a post about the state of magic after patch 20 i am a lvl 56 offensive mage with +68% gloves and good lvl 50 light armor, i currently cant use my spell fear because it is way too slow to cast, so what i did is load my gloves with a fear crystal load it with sap and went to hunt to test things out.
I was hunting a Scampering Capryni lvl 34...that gives me 43xp.
If you look at this screen shot of the fight you will notice that my fear was resisted 7 TIMES, that i had to use my 500 health to survive, that i got not a single dodge, and he missed me only once.
Notice the variations on the acid 5 missile i used 240,153, 80 for the same spell, magic is way too unreliable right now to be used effectively.
If i get more that one im in trouble 3 im dead, and that is using every technique that i know.
Please fix the magic, give us the ability to be able to solo, reduce our damage if you want, but i would enjoy a battle that last longer and be able to do something about it.
And even grouped the pace is totally insane now, its just heal heal heal to be able to keep the fighter alive no time to do anything else.

Are you using fear 1? Taunt 1 doesn't work on vigalent kipee. Taunt two works fine. It's a skill for taunting level 50 mobs 100% of the time but works well 15-20 levels higher. Try using a higher level of fear. Some mobs are also more resistant to spells than others. I would expect them to be of course. Saying a mob is immune or not is just plain...plain.
As for grouping, I have the 330 heal but I have a rockin staff that is 100% heal speed and 86% heal power Q70...so I heal for roughly 560 or so. We were all level 50-60ish knocking down vigilant kipee for 1.2-2.5k pretty fast. I'd say about 4-8 a minute depending on spawn times.
We hit a couple rough points because we decided to pull up close...seriously pulling takes more than half the time it takes to kill mobs sometimes...people should learn to put themselves in danger rather than leveling in 'total safety'. Not that you are sigmor, just thought I'd say that in general. Anyways, we all died a few times, but didn't respawn...except when that damn gingo killed us all. But that thing was massive. WAY higher than the kipee we were killing.
When I did my part for the healing, I was able to throw in some nukes, a few disabling spells etc. while collecting plenty of xp.
Right now I'm soloing 60ish messabs, Yber and Izam for 1.2k-2.5. The mats aren't as good solo, and I do get a whole 1.5 minutes downtime if I'm lucky enough to draw 3 curious mobs to me in a quick chain. That's usually about 6-7k experience and all the mats to myself. I can't complain. I'm a 53 magic user, and due to herd mentality it's a little bit slower to kill these guys since I can't draw them in and then attack them.
Hey, magic users are supposed to be weak. I say let them be the weaker solo class....at least until you have enough melee or ranged behind you to STACK your hp so you can solo. Think about all the great mages you read about in stories. Think they could stand toe to toe with a bully who has a stick when they get their first magic missle? NO. So lets let them get powerful first
...like that guy in the hobbit movie. HE had a sword..Gandalf! yeah I bet Gandalf leveled his warrior stats waaay before he leveled his magic. Sauromon musta been his healer which is why he leveled magic faster and was the boss. But then Gandalf was able to level himself real fast killing that Balrog for the 3k xp he needed. Those orcs problably only gave him about 14 xp. Cave trolls..maybe 200. Who wants to kill 15 cave trolls though? ugh. Anyways, Gandalf never would have stood up to the torture of Sauromon (they didn't show that part..and tolkien only made vague references to it in my imagination) if he didn't have the HP FROM LEVELING MELEE! see what I mean?
Realistically...Heavier armor costs more. Weapons too. Lots of degrading. So if it costs more, why not balance warriors to level a little faster?
Light armor protects almost nothing at higher levels. So why bother if you gonna solo some giant detroyer ragus? Melee needs it though...and they gonna decay from every mob. Just means less balance of decay. And laughing at acid 9 casting homins in their undies...no no sir I wasn't uhh...laughing at YOU per se...

you must be doing something wrong then. I am 33 in offensive using lvl50 med vest/sleeves with caster pants and I can solo a moderate kipee (lvl 38) using cold damage 5. Rember to get the most ammount of distance that you can before starting your magic attacks, that way you get a few in before the mob gets within melee range. I also almost never miss them either, if I remember correctly I miss 1 out of 5 casts. Ask around if anyone has any +Hp jewels and +hp boosted armor that you can get ahold of to bump up that hp of yours.

I am using fear 1, i was before patch and it worked good, now it doesn't it seems, my heal is a 72 heal, it's more than i had before patch.
So my current situation is this, since the situation has changed so much that i cant cast fear because it's too low, i need to boost it. My heal is too low now, i need to boost it, my stamina transfer is too low i need to boost it.
And btw i'm level 40 melee and it doesnt seem to do squat to help me kill a lvl 34????
So how do i get xp if i can't kill anything? I not usefull in groups because i can't heal much, and i don't wan't to anyway, for me it's was there for emergencies, i'm offensive mage and that's the way i wan't to play it.
So i can say that the big problem with a complete respec is that without knowing what the changes where there was no way to know how to invest the skill points back, and i tried to put them as i it was before.
So what your saying a mage is not mean't to solo, so i might has well make a melee, for me melee is boring, so your basically saying to me tough luck you need to go melee to solo....man i'm not happy
